Last week I put in for a vacation over the week of July 10th. I realized southwick is the 8th.... so I wanna go. However it's a 1,000+ mile drive, or 16 hours. I'll get off of work around midnight on Thursday night (technically friday morning). So, would you go for it? Ill have over a week to make my way back home.
If it makes a difference, the only outdoor national I've been to is Muddy Creek, and I've already bought my ticket for muddy creek this year.

Do it. You'll look back and always remember the quest. If you don't, you'll always wish you had. Life's short bro......

Used to do the same when my son was racing amateurs. Always had another dad going, so we traded driving. Main concern is the interruption of your normal sleep cycle, safety wise.

I was expecting to open this thread and see a picture of a hot woman with a title like that...Vital failed me this time.

But, yes! The adventure there can sometimes have better memories than the actual race!

I would say go for it, but before you do check out prices for flights. Air fare was unusually low recently and you may be able to fly for about the same as it would cost to drive. The traffic on the 95 corridor is always heavy, and there are many high priced tolls that increase the cost of driving substantially. With several airports up here to choose from (Bradley, Logan, TF Green, & Manchester), you could probably get a cheap flight if you have date and destination flexibility. Rental cars off airport can be had for around $20 per day. If you make it to the Wick lets meet up for a brew or two.

Alright alright, I'll go Wink

Won't be calling out Thursday though, my employer treats me pretty good. The least I can do is show up when I'm expected to. Just gonna be a really long drive Sad

I appreciate the advice, but every year I take a road trip living out of my truck. Just more fun to travel sleeping in walmart parking lots.

And yeah, yalls tolls are no joke! Here in Georgia the toll lane is like 30 cents if you want to take it. Meanwhile yall paying $10 just to get to work. Sick
And that toll between Jersey and NY. What, $20? $25? Fucking ripoff.

Check it off the list man!! No brainer here.

Can't recall the arrangement with the local American Legion that owns the track that brought the National back after it's hiatus, but if you skipped out on this trip and down the road The Wick was off the schedule again, you'd be kicking yourself for (I'm gunna say it) pussing out.

First 70% of the drive looks like it'd be nice and scenic.. Only 30mins longer to then go through Washington DC and Philly before passing through NYC on the final stretch. Could make for some cool sight seeing on the drive home if you've never been to those places.

(did you really think we'd tell you to stay home?)

Do it you only live once. No regerts bro. Seriously tho I've been doing more things like this lately. I was always real cheap and never did things that were far away or a lot of work because I didn't want to spend the money, or make the drive or whatever excuse I could come up with and I always regretted not going. If anything the last few weeks around here show that you can't take life for granted. Go for it the wick is a blast.

Some of the most memorable races I've ever been too were the shittiest experiences at the time. The more work and miserable it is to get there, the more you enjoy being there. Def worth pulling the trigger on. Went to Daytona years ago and drove through the night......but to this day I remember that race and is def one of my best memories. But I too was expecting a set of double D's when I saw the title of this thread. lol

Fixing to head off to work, and then on to southwick! I'm hoping to make it to a buddies house by friday night. Wish me luck, won't be getting off early tonight. And the past 2 days I've only slept a few hours. Blush

Done stuff like this several times. You won't remember the drive being a pain in the ass and it'll be completely worth the trip.
