Privateer priorities

If you are a privateer on a 250 what are your must haves week to week when racing the Nationals ? Do you have to have fresh tires every week ? Do you stretch your rebuilds out a few rounds ? I'm sure there are always unexpected costs for broken or bent parts. I'm talking just planned costs. Seems like it would be too hard for a guy who is just making mains unless he had a sugar momma flipping the bill.

Fuel for sure. Most of the guys going to all the races get to know the tire guys pretty well and get hand me downs. I'm pretty sure top 20 guys get free tires from Dunlop im not sure. But in the 250 class fuel is a huge thing to have for those high revving mod or stock bikes. That's what I'd budget for at least. Clutches/fuel/brakes and keep a few spare Pistons

I would think it's fuel, too, but more to get to the next round. The cost of getting from here to there must be huge.

Not everyone gets tires. Clutches, graphics, race gas, brake pads, and tires are the minimal things I changed every week when I was racing the Nats. I got 10 fronts and 10 rears for free and I had to pay after that. To buy tires at the race is about half the cost of retail but still it adds up. Fuel to get to the races and lodging is the number 1 cost for sure. I had a van and a mechanic so we had to stay in hotels or at other riders' houses depending on what part of the country we were in. Riding during the week is also a big expense.

You cant just decide what fuel to put in the bike, the engine is built for whatever fuel you are going to run, this is where making everyone run pump gas would be a great idea, because its not just the cost of the gas, it would be the cost of the mods that the gas lets you run

Tyres .. new every round for deffo .

Everything else, replace as required.

Not counting any unexpected expense, I'd estimate with travel costs a privateer would be spending about $1,500-$1,750 per round. Seems like it adds up fast.

$100- Hotel
$150- Van fuel
$500- entry fee
$75- food
$80- tires
$150- VP gas for bike
$200- mechanic pay
$100- wear items for bike
$200- mid week practice costs

Why should a professional have to pay $500 to enter an event? Is this something thats common among all professional sports?

92 octane with 10% ethanol? That would limit an engine.

Crazy to think how much money you would spend just keeping your bike fresh from round to round. I agree the travel is the big cost but the bike parts have to add up quick. If you are a 30-40th place rider you are pretty damn fast and you would be paying way to much to follow the series. I can't understand why the local pro scene isn't stronger where guys could make some weekend money without traveling so much.

The entry fee kinda blows my mind. I heard the rider needs to pay for the mechanics wrist band to enter the event($50).
Maybe these fees go towards medical staff and insurance costs? I could understand that if it's the case.
