Tim Lovatt did mine. He is the only one who does the AKADIZING process. He has done every Hinson clutch part and all of team KTM / Yamaha/ Honda/ TwoTwo motorsports / TLD and BTO bikes. I tried doing my ignition cover and water pump cover, but they wouldn't work with the process. I talked to Brian Hinson and he said that KTM has billet Aluminum pieces duplicated for strength and they can also be AKADIZED. Tim is almost impossible to get ahold of, but I do have his cell. Rocketsocks called and was told they didn't want to be responsible for wrecking his parts, which I'm sure has to do with the Magnesium situation. I had a few clutch covers done for friends and also for my bikes and I had to remove all bushings, site glass and seals, then reinstall them after the finish was done. It's not a big deal with the right tools, but not everyone would be able to handle it....

have a lot to do, this part is last on my list to design, as its a bit over my head in the Solidworks dept. so i'd rather not botch a $$$ custom part. Here it is scanned and rough modeled. As you know kx500 engine doesnt have a removable clutch cover, not that you need to go in there to much. but if you do its a huge pain in the ass. Will be making a new one with removable clutch cover, and KIPS and water pump removed.

Oops... Wrong 500. Lol
I thought you were talking KTM 500. Laughing

I do know a couple of guys with KX 500's that would be interested though.

I have the outer clutch cover that I bought brand new and had it AKADIZED, along with an ignition cover and water pump cover that are powder coated flat gray. The ignition cover and water pump cover are magnesium and won't handle the AKADIZED process. KTM has aluminum ones made for the race team that are unavailable to the public.
I'm selling all 3 for $350 SHIPPED I have more into them than that, but I just sold my bike.

So as it sits right now, I have the following parts that are not spoken for-

* NEKEN SFS clamps (bottom clamp has never been installed and top clamp has 5 hours on it) $800.00

* Hinson clutch cover in "like new" condition $100.00

* Misc Works connection "bling parts" all in "like new" condition (clutch and f.brake reservoir covers/ steering stem nut w/ hole in it for the gas hose/ clutch perch rotating clamp) $50.00

If anyone is interested in any of these parts, please email or pm me langhammx@sbcglobal.net and I'll put them aside for you.

Quick question for you CV experts.. I get a knock feeling in whoops when the fork is rebounding out. I'm at 15-17 out. Feels good on the rest of the track. Just whoops when I push down and pull up to air into the next. I'm 3-4 clicks on the preload.

Any ideas why it's rebounding so fast in that situation?
I experiences that today or I just noticed it for the first time. I believe Tim507 is correct.
It seems like the top out spring collapsed more than the preload (1mm) and goes negative preload for a second and gets a little slop???.
It did it in the same situation you described, weird...

Yeah random feeling! I rode the day after I posted this and it never happened. I guess the stars much align for it to happen. I'm gonna stop by WP this week and see what they say.

I think I found the source of the clunk on my bike, or it's a result??? That's the spring tube.

Oh dang! My rebound knock hasn't happened in a while. Maybe my new compression/rebound settings are better? Let me know what you find out about that cracked piece!

It's only a $110 part, haha. Luckily I have another set to steal the part from, should have the replacement by next week.
What I did find was, adding a little more preload seemed to get rid of the knock/clunk, maybe that's what is happening beyond my current issue???

How many clicks of preload did you settle at? I'm at 3.

4 clicks, 2mm preload. I was at 1mm.
On both sets that I have, they weren't exactly at zero preload when backed all the way out, within a mm.
The top out spring seems to have at least 2mm of range. ( didn't measure, but looked like that.)

It looks like the plastic one from the KTM/Husky Powerparts catalog. I think they cost around $130

I'm late to the thread, but when I saw your pic I was going to say to check the total preload. Even if the instructions say that X clicks = X preload, WP springs are inconsistent in their lengths and that's why there's always the small plastic preload spacers in the forks to get the total spring length. Sometimes on side will have 2 and the other have 3 or 4 because the springs are different lengths. If yours are short than maybe you were at 0 or even negative instead or +1 and the spring slapping may explain the cracked plastic seat.

That way you get current pricing. I know prices have increased since we all bought ours. Not Billy's fault but WP increased costs.

I will say it was under $3,000.

52mm are pretty rare and hard to find. They are out there and available if someone is willing to sell. If you do find a set make sure you get clamps with them.

I was starting to think I was the one that was insane! I have a 2013 450sxf, and haven't touched it except putting on low boy pegs, tall bars, and cutting down the silencer about 2". I run top 3 in vet class and couldn't imagine spending $500 let alone thousands on suspension. These people are freaking insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can give Billy a call and see if he can obtain a set for you. The 52's are far less common then the 48's and much stiffer. There's a reason that you don't see many of them out there.

Insane might be a bit of a strong word, no? Different things appeal to different people. You enjoy your bike with minimal mods. For some it's about building the bike they've always wanted. I'm a tall rider and would never run low pegs and tall bars...but I don't think you're crazy for doing so. It's all a matter of opinion and preference.

When it comes down to it, none of us really need more bike than what was available in the 80's since we couldn't use it to it's potential. But most of us go get new bikes every so often. Some more than others.

I don't think anyone is insane for spending money on their bike. There are some bikes that are amazing builds out there, and for some that's the goal. I know people who sink money into cars that makes what we spend on bikes look like child's play. Maybe they're insane, too? Who needs a 700HP street legal car? It's not my thing, but I would never judge those who choose to play with their cars.

Life's short. Do what makes you happy. If you want to put money into your bike do it. If you don't, then don't. But don't be judgmental about what someone else does with their money and their bike.

Hi guys! I got the WP CV 48 on my FX350 2017. Solid forks! I had the issue with the rebound knock/clunk, but send it to a local suspensión shop and said it also happened something similar with the Ohlins. Had to do with the preload springs... He sorted that one out.

But another issue that I am having is some leak between the preload adjuster and the top cap (see pictures). Has anyone else had a similar problem? I been told that it has happened before but it seems that you can even change the complete cap and could happen again... Maybe manufacture problem?

The first time I ever saw these 52 MM cone valve forks was on a KTM FE owned by a 50+ novice.

Kind of reminds me of the fat old guys that buy a 15K mountain bike...
