What's up with the pits??

I heard that they do the pits a really stupid way now. It's not just waiting in line to see the riders anymore, it was something about only a select group of people get numbers and those people allowed to get autographs..?

Someone Elaborate for me please

So glad I was a kid in the pits when you could get MC's autograph without it being like having to sleep outside the Apple store a week for the new iPhone

Buy the racerx pit pass and have the opportunity to walk into the pits whenever you feel like it. Well worth the money imo

They're doing a huge autograph signing on Friday night in Folsom(5 min from track). That's your best bet.

Kawasaki only let like 70 or so meet eli. Their pr guy passed out tickets to people. I know because i was the first guy affer the last ticket at indy. Fuckin sucks. Yamaha does it right. They let us go right up in their semi to meet chad amd take pics.

That's kinda been the standard for a while. Stand in line early to get a ticket so you can stand in line later with your ticket to get an autohraph.

Like the others said, I'm glad I was of the autograph age before this shit started. Once I hit around 16 I realized they are just dudes and I could care less to have them sign something.

Why do people want autographs from a person being forced to sit there and give autographs?

I never wasted my time getting any over the last 35 years!

Back on topic though, although I understand them not wanting to "wear out" their star rider...Kawasaki seems to have some real control issues, and this is just another example.

Some things never change... I walked up to Roger in the pits at High Point in 1997 as a kid and got my picture with him; brought the picture back with me in 1998 and walked right up to him and had him sign it. Got my photo with him again just last year in the pits at the Charlotte MXGP race. "The Man" is about as legendary as they come..

I bought a new KTM 450 fe in 2014.

I was out at Rio riding one day & Danny the owner comes up & hands my Dungy's front nu8mber plate from the St Louis Super cross, It was singed by Roger DeCoster!

I got Ryan to sign it later that year at Wild West Honda\KTM.

I've got all the ones I want!

I realize everyone wants an autograph but if the riders stuck around to give everyone an autograph they'd have to miss practice, qualifying, and even the race (depending on the racer).

The teams tried to organize autograph sessions by creating a line and when the lines stretched out over a few hundred people (no joke), they implemented the ticket idea. Only people with tickets can get an autograph to help control the amount of time it takes for an autograph session. Now there's a line to get tickets.

Remember, while interacting with the fans is a small PART of their job. RACING is their priority. I think most racers want to interact with the fans, it's just a matter of having the time to do it. Then when they leave the table because it's time to go, fans get pissed because they didn't get their hero's signature and then blame the rider for not focusing on the fans instead of why he's there in the first place...to race.

You want an autograph, many of the teams do an autograph signing the night before at a dealership. That's your best bet. You want one at the race, well better get there early and get used to standing in line.

Cool story. I was a guest of Wyman Priddy at that race, and he was such a nice guy everybody seemed to know him and dropped by his pit area to say "hi"...Kent Howerton, Brad Lackey, Jim Weinert, Billy Grossi, Gary Jones...everybody. DeCoster was my boyhood hero, and I was nervous about walking up to his pit...but Roger was so cool, had such a "European" aura about him, he patiently answered my questions shook my hand and signed my t-shirt and gave me a pair of his Baruffaldi goggles. I was in awe for months over that. The coolest dude ever!

I've been in SX pits many times since then, but have never had the chance to meet him again after all these years. I hope I can before he leaves KTM.

Good way to put it. Yeah I never cared for an autograph, I just liked shaking the guys hands and saying what's up and telling them good luck. But my little girl wants a pic with Dungey but idk about missing ALL of practice waiting in line to maybe see him..

I can't find my DeCoster autograph but it was after he retired from racing. I have some stickers autographed by McGrath, a cap signed by #259 somewhere and an autographed Bob Hannah lunchbox.

Last year my son was really exited about meeting his favorite MX2 up and comer. The rider never stopped talking to the rider next to him and gave the poster to him without ever looking at him.

I know it must get old but it is only 30 minutes or so to speak with the fans. Only 30 minutes to focus on the people in the line not your buddies or your smart phone.
