He only rode about half the series (broke his wrist at round 2 in Phx during practice) but i am pretty sure he made all the mains.

So that would mean that because of crashing he failed to make about half the mains.
He failed to make the main in RD#2-RD#10 and RD#16 in his rookie year in the Supercross class.

You gotta admit, against riders like Reed, Stewie, Short and more, RV is putting in a damn impressive first season in the big boys class..

ditto ............ apart from A3 where he took a fair whack to the head in the heat he has been making very steady progress...

he should be a regular on the podium the second half of the season.

RV is doing very well. The idea for most rookies should be stay healthy I would think. Unless of course, your name is MC, then you can race for wins pretty much straight away. Bradshaw won races right out of the box but wadded up. I can't think of any other rookies that won. Well, Tripes but then everyone were rookies at that point. I believe RV will finish higher in the final points than James did his first year, indoors and out.

don't worry bout RV...he is doing fine. will be a contender. can he beat james and go that fast...not sure. maybe. what goes up..must come down.

good point. Hadn't Reed already raced the big bike class in the GPs?

Anyway, like MC, he's always been smooth and ready to go. But that may be his undoing. Since RC came along, if you wanted to compete for the top spot, you had to be willing to ride the edge and then some. That was never really MCs style and it doesn't seem to be Reed's style. But Bubba has it and so does RV...don't know if RV can muster the speed to battle JBS, but he has the attitude.

Just my .02.

If you are talking first year in the premier class on US soil he did good. Even his true rookie year (in australia) he was in the big boys class and winning if my memory serves me correct. I even think he rode both classes 125's and 250's.

In reed's first full AMA SX season (2003) he won 8 of 16 got 5 2nd places, 2 6th places and a 3rd just missing out on the title to the GOAT by 7 points and they were 135 points clear of 3rd. The year before scored 47 points in the 250 class while also winning the 125 (lites) east title with 6 from 7 wins.

He said in a Heat. In other words during the night program. The answer is no.

There was a different format for the program was well so.

As a side note, RV is doing well this season IMO.

RV not making the main last week only ads fuel to the fire of bringing back the old format..... that's why originally they had the heats, semi, then lcq in the big class, so one of the big names that somebody drove 400 miles to see race would almost certainly make the main.....

if Reed or Blubba fail to make a main in the same way that RV did last weekend, you can be assured the race format will get changed before the next weekend..

Apples to apples you can't compare CR's first FULL season on the bigs to RV's. CR came in with way more experience on the big bikes. Didn't CR race 4 or 5 opposite coast rounds the previous year or even the year before that? He put in good rides. If my memory is correct his finishes where in the top 10. I think his best was around 5th.

I think you are forgetting who won Anaheim 1. So far in JG first attempt at the premier class he has finished in the top five every race. JG is doing awesome in his rookie season for himself and the whole JGR team.

The Ryan Fans came onto the scene with Praise God, the next Moto messiah is here.

Had the feeling been, Ryan is going to do really well and provide some great racing; the attitude would be different on the boards.

Q: Is Ryan an impressive rookie?
A: Very much so

Q: Will Ryan podium is rookie season?
A: Absolutely, a few times.

Q: Will Ryan take the championship his rookie season
A: Are you on drugs? Share some of that, would ya?

The fact that everyone is using the MXdN as the standard to base Ryan upon has to remember who was in that field. Best representatives of each country but NOT best racers assembled. He was very much "On" that day. Given the talent Ryan is racing against only shows how good he really is. Does that make him a Champion of the 450 class? Not yet. There is more to racing then just setting fastest laps. Starts count so keep that "If he could only get a start." Starts are 90% of the race.

My nickle on the subject.

RV is right where he should be I think. He is doing damn good for a rookie season on the big bikes. Slowly working his was up to the podium. He has the skill to be a consistent podium guy this year and maybe next year a run for the Championship. Hopefully he keeps it up and makes it through the SX season and its gonna be one hell of an outdoor season.

Again, my question was, in his first year in the 450 class (which was... ?), did he ever crash in a heat and lcq and fail to make the main? Ever, in that first year. I believe the answer is no. Am I wrong?

Yes I am wrong. DC provided the answer: at the last round in 2005, Stewart crashed in his heat race and DNS the main.

RV will never consistenly beat James inside......EVER! PERIOD! The mighty RC didnt hand it to him without James giving it to him....but what once?
