I would like to start out by extending my deepest sympathies to the Lusk family in this time of sorrow.
I was curious how does everyone think Jeremys fellow FMXers will take this tragedy? Do you guys think any of them will consider giving it up? I seriously doubt it since im sure thats not what Jeremy would want any of them to even think of doing.
I just ask myself every time i watch these guys perform, how much further will they push the envelope? The stunts they perform are incredible but are they worth the potential consequences?
I just think everyone probably says the same thing i do every time we watch Pastrana or Madison perform there amazing tricks, these guys are crazy they are going to put themselves in the hospital. And we all sit on the edge of our seat because we know what can happen if their trick goes wrong.
I guess thats what makes the stuff so exciting is that "what if they dont land it?"
GodSpeed Jeremy.....

i think the main thing that will come out of this is improved safety and medical staff at FMX events. I think this tragedy will make both riders and event organizers look long and hard at medical staff on hand and other safety concerns.

A crash similar to that can happen at any time, freestyle or not, imagine just going over the bars like that? I have a feeling the final result of the injury was because of the inability of the EMTs and staff on hand, not the injury itself.
RIP
I would say the reason this has received so much attention is because Jeremy is someone that all of us knew of. He was a household name in the dirtbike community.
Your comment about the inability of the EMT's, i dont think anyone should speculate on that. Just becasue it was another country doesnt mean they dont have the ability to properly care for someone.
With no practice, no foam pits, just a downramp with a few hay bales, Cam and Bilko landed several flips. And said that they knew Jono was up there helping them.
I think it will be a shock for many of Jeremy's friends obviously, but im sure they will all have their own way of dedicating something to him.
R.I.P Jeremy.
Why shouldn't anyone question the ability of the staff on hand? Did you watch the video? Elementary school students here could have done a better job. I was down longer with a broken back and femur than he was, and they didn't even know what was wrong with him.
I had hardly ever heard of him before he was on the cover of TWMX, and when I heard about this the first thing that came to mind was "who is that?" Household name in the freestyle community maybe.
Bottom line, my opinion, the conditions weren't prime for the competition to take place and having it in BFE with poor staff around led to the end result.
I would like to think that the professionals these guys are they would be the ones to call the shots on if the conditions are safe for them to ride. You cant make me believe for one minute that if Jeremy thought he was in danger because of the elements or the abilities of the EMS on hand he would have rode anyway.
I don't think any kind of weather would stop any of them from riding. That's why they get paid to do what they do. If the weather sucked, they'd just do it because they went all the way there and were getting paid. I know I would.
Now I just really wonder if you have seen the video or not? If you respond to any of this, at least answer that. Please don't say you didn't watch it "out of respect," being respectful would be watching it and learning something from it.
I myself have come across some retarded EMTs in the states, and when they try to do something to me I don't like I make them leave me alone. It doesn't look to me that he was able to "defend himself" the way I've just explained I have in the past.
I have had my complaints about EMS at our local tracks like everyone else has but the bottom line is if you dont feel comfortable with the people that are there to take care of you should something go wrong then you have the choice to not ride.
My son has broke his back before so i know what its like for a parent to deal with a serious injury.
This is why when we get to the track my wife talks to the EMT's and asks them are you EMT"s or are you Paramedics? There is a huge difference.
Can i see your credentials?
Where is the closest hospital should something go wrong?
Can i get directions?
Does this area offer LifeFlight? Some areas dont.
People complain about EMS at tracks but how many ask these questions? I know we didnt until my son got hurt pretty bad.
By nature people just want to complain and bitch and blame someone else, when in reality you are the one that can do the most for your safety.
My opinion is that, in FMX, if something goes wrong, it's probably going to go VERY wrong. In MX, you have a much better ratio of 'walkaways' to 'total number of crashes'. IOW, there are risks in each. But the penalty extracted for a fuck up are way higher with FMX.
Put yet another way, 4-5 '9s' of reliability (as in 99.999% uptime without a failure) is an acceptable success rate in most things. But not for commercial aircraft or nuclear weapons. For rather obvious reasons. Same principle.

If people used mx bikes to heard pigs that would be motocross also?
