Hi all

Got a kxf250 2013 which we've had for about 4 months. About 6 weeks ago it started bogging down or just cutting out. Its been to Kawasaki dealer who plugged it in and the diagnostic showed 19 faults with the air pressure sensor. I was replaced and we took the bike out for a test and after 5 mins it started bogging down and cutting out again. we were leaving the bike to cool down and on the following rides out after 5 mins or so the same thing would happen again. could it be an issue when the bike is upto running temperature maybe ?????????

Back to the dealers it went and this time the stator was removed and sent away for test. All was fine until they used an heat gun to warm it up and it was showing as faulty when hot. That was "fixed" and we got the bike back again only for the same thing to happen again after 5 mins or so.

Any ideas where to look now please guys ?

It could be the ignition coil breaking down. Have you done an OHMs test on the coil?
It could also be a fuel deliver issue. This can be caused by a faulty fuel pump, plugged fuel filter or a faulty fuel tank vent.

As yet no test done on the coil. If the coil test turns out okay is there a way to test the fuel pump that you know of. Cheers

Sounds electrical.

Being it's heat related, I would suspect a stator, coil or reg/rec... And in that order...

Last time the bike was in the dealer they sent the stator away for test and it was found to be faulty when hot. They replaced the " pick up eye " what ever one of those is and the dealer said the problem should be sorted. We've ordered a new coil to try that now.

Since my lasy post the stator has had a rewind, a new coil was fitted and the bike was ran with the engine temp sensor disconnected and is still the same.

Stator been rewound, new coil fitted and reg/rec tested and is fine. Bike still the same :-(

Check your fuel pump and fuel filter.
Also check the vent lines to the tank and EFI.

when the new coil was fitted, was a new sparkplug cap fitted, or was the old one refitted? If the old one was refitted, it may be carbon tracked, especially if the bike got wet prior to this issue occurring. (had a friend with a 2011 KX250F.....same issue, turned out to be the sparkplug cap carbon tracked after a creek crossing) If a new sparkplug cap resolves the issue, I would recommend using dielectric grease on all the electrics including the high tension lead and sparkplug cap.

Nah still the same. Also had a compression test done and that was fine.

I saw where you posted the stator was re-wound. But, has a new one been tried out? Ive seen weird things with stators where they test within limits but are still bad, even re-wound. It sure sounds like a stator issue to me. Just a thought.

Kill switch? All grounding OK?

Grounds and wiring. You haven't mentioned anything about that yet so check all of that.

Have you had any problems with lack of power or cutting out at hi RPM on your FC250

Bump. Mine has the same issue.

Any resolution?

My sxf 250 has the exact same problem. I swapped the tank from a friend and it ran fine so it's down to either the pump or the intank filter. I'm told the pumps rarely fail so I'm going to try the filter first!!

Intake seats could be chipped. KXF250's need a BeCu or equivalent intake seats and guides. Just a matter of when they'll fail.

Not sure what year KTM you have but around 2016 there was some bikes with a link fuel line in the tank after the fuel pump.

They have a new pump with a longer hose now or you can add a longer hose just need to use a clamp that won't ever come loose.

Explain the pump test...
Also did you look at the fuel pump filter? If clogged the pump will run but very little fuel will flow. The filter and pump are sold as a set.
The OEM pump is about $500 where as the aftermarket pump with filter are about $30 on line.

Not sure if its the same.

But my 13' YZ450F had a similar issue.
Previous owner had a shop replace the fuel pump and clean the throttle body.
I then replaced the TPS sensor and air intake sensor. Would run fine, then once it was restarted when hot, would bog and backfire.
Ended up being a faulty MAF sensor. no visible damage to the sensor, but after swapping a good sensor off a running bike and fitting it to mine. problem solved.

The wife's old KX250F had a faulty TPS sensor that caused hers to bog and backfire.

Something to look at...
