because tomac has been THE star of this season. tomac gave us a real impressive and exciting title hunt to watch and showed us some of the best race performances we have seen in many many years. he brought the entertainment. this season has tomac written all over it.
maybe it's time to reward wins more in this sport, but that's probably another discussion.
bring on the great outdoors!

Wins need to be rewarded by giving more points.
Some people have said that Eli should have backed it down and played it smart like Dungey but after those first few rounds he didn't give himself any other option, he had to just go for and he sure as hell did and damn near pulled off one of the best comebacks in the history of the sport, against the most consistent rider in the sport. That's one hell of a feat. No matter who ends up with this title the real winners are us fans, I don't care if you like Dungey, Tomac or James Stewart this is a season for the ages.

nobody turned on the tv to see if dungey can extend his pointslead. people turned on the tv to see tomac chase down everyone and make one of the greatest comebacks in points to win the title we have seen in a long time. that's what excited people. not to see how dungey klicks off his 2nd's and 3rd's week after week.
To be honest, I don't know why people turn on the tv. I for one turn it on to watch MX in all it's facets. I think it's in the eye of the beholder who brought the excitement. I mean, imagine Dungey would have been out early like in the outdoors last year...
Say what you want about 3 points last weekend or his mechanical issue, he lost it in the first 3 rounds when he couldn't get the ball rolling, that was all him.
Dungey "if" he wins will deserve it, there's no crowns and no gifts. He will have won it with his ride at Daytona when he collected max points for the situation he was dealt
Maybe I'm weird but I just watched every week to see what would happen, and enjoy the races..
We'll run all the races and the rider with the most points at the end of the season wins the championship.
All understood?? Ok, let's ride.
Theres more to championship wins than outright speed. Otherwise we'd be crowning Kroc this year..
You've gotta get your shit together from round 1 and keep it together all year.
You've gotta be consistent.
You cannot afford a bad day.
Bike and/or rider must not fail.
Dungey wins. 2017 is over. Let's see if Tomac (and Kawi) can get his shit together in round 1 next year and keep it together all year. It'll be a big ask from a rider who has shown more than once now, that he cannot do it.
Dungey is very deserving of this championship. Anyone who thinks otherwise is retarded.

I seem to remember "nobody cares when they look at the championship standings". Well that applies here too.
Well said, my German friend. Great season all around. I've admitted before to being partial to Eli, but I'm a big fan of good racing and of all riders finishing safely.
As someone above noted, the record books will remember only the champion, but I don't think any of us are going to forget Ryan or Eli and 2017 SX.
