Great post.

He was used to dominating and having a hard time now that he finally moved up to MXGP. He is fast, he will adapt and win again. It's just going to take some time.
Are you talking about Searle?
Sorry, fan boy here, i just keep hopeing it will happen eventually Sad

Sorry boys (haters)...it is all just BS... He is injured and cannot ride the way he wants to (or did last year at MXDN)...

Just look at him riding last Sunday..he was totally stiff on the bike...no agression at all....second league guys were overtaking him on the outside...and yet he was able to put in almost the same lap time as Gajser in warm up (1,5 seconds faster than the rest of the field).

Wait a month or so...when he removes the handguards you will see his true speed...

Hope tomak or what is that guys name stays healthy till MXDN..so his ass gets handed to him by 84 and 243...hahahaha

"This is the big boy class." Realization that the competition is at another level than MX2. Sounded bewildered that he isn't dominating some of the guys he used to beat, most of who have been riding MX1 and progressing.

Obviously, the rookie learning curve and injuries have him behind. Everyone expects him to be better than what he's been so far. But from his comment about how he knew he would always win mx2 no matter where he started as long as he didn't crash (and the stats to back it) makes me believe that he did himself a disservice by not moving up and having to race hard. He had years of cakewalks because of his talent while his mx1 colleagues were fighting every moto (sans ac222 and a couple years dominations).

He'll improve. We are just a few rounds of his rookie year. He can obviously ride, but is it crazy that maybe he hasn't had to really race again until this year? Sand Tracks are coming. Maybe he can get some confidence back because he currently thinks he sucks and is having no fun.

Nice to hear the honesty and making no excuses.
Dont forget that Herlings often had better laptimes than the "big boy class" last year on his 250. And not just on sandtracks.

He will get his confidence and bike setup correct soon and he will be flying again.

If you did read Febvre interview about these fly away tracks I'm sure Herlings feels same. 3/4 tracks were really bad and not many wanted to take risk. If you have broken hand you don't wanna take risk when tracks are not safe.

I think KTM wanted him to race 450f but would have been awesome to see him ride 350f and take every horse out of it hanging it wide open like 250f. I was going to ride Eersel and would have been nice to see him at same track but went track just couple km away so missed him.

Bike on Mel´s video could have been also his old 250f because that part of track you just roll around tight s-turns so Herlings just could have been on high gear.

The only reason I can see him riding a 250f is to gain some confidence and find that agression again?

Hoping he can fire things up in valkenswaard in two weeks, I doubt he will want to loose his winning streak no matter how 'off the pace' he is.

greg570 and others who have noted his seeming 'hatred' of Handguards. With that metal in his hand, I'd think he'd be wise to keep using the bloody things, 'hate' of them or not. 450s throw a mean roost (well, 250s do too) , and having that hand hit by 'stuff', would be a good way to further aggravate the injury.

He's been hurt, he's had a wake up call as to how full on a 450 is in continual use ( in this interview, and others, he noted how Maggiora was well suited to his 250 style on the 450), and, how fast All riders are in MXGP. I think, finally, after All of the numerous injuries he's had, he might just have decided to ease off / take a bit of time with things.

That hand looks anything but perfect in that picture from Mexico. I like how he's not emphasizing it as any real problem, but hanging onto a 450, with a hand that's less than perfect, at the GP level, would be quite a task.

Hopefully, he'll stay injury free for the rest of the season.

With his 'pinner' style, a 350 would have been quite the thing for him. He finished in front of RV and Dungey on one at the 2011 MXDN in one moto, if I recall correctly - with a gearbox stuck in one gear. I'd say KTM would have loved for him to decide on a 350, but, he opted for a 450, from the get go for this season.

Saying you don't want to take any risks is another way of saying you're not good enough at the moment. Last year Febvre was flying at the overseas in Qatar, Thailand, Argentina and Mexico and it were the same tracks at 3 of the 4 venues. Those things can happen.

That was what I was trying to get out of Febvre when I asked what's changed, as Mexico has been great for him in the past.

When I spoke to him last year he said his focus through the remaining rounds was to do testing for this year, but the results have gotten even worse somehow. It's certainly perplexing. It seems he is quite hopeful that he'll be better in Trentino, but what happens if he's not?
