Hear me out.

Add another wheel to the back. Twice the drive, right? Maybe add another on the front to balance the machine better.

People are so far behind.

Only problem is it adds weight to the bike for a part of the race that lasts 6 seconds. Starts are a huge part of the race though so you never know...

I think hole shot devices are a joke I used to do the gate dance. Packing it down and all of that, I don't even practice starts anymore. I learned after all my years of racing arena cross it came down to being smooth and not just dumping the clutch fully over the gate.

I found i was more successful getting a good start vs the pinned dumping the clutch fully style. That usually results in just spinning up and wheeling. Hole shot device or not results in the same thing happening.

Think of it this way you generally don't start that way when you're just taking off normally. You start out smoothly.

As a guy that's good at starts, I never got why people resorted to the lowering links and all the BS.

Y'all should learn about Vernon "Big Daddy" Patterson. The man lines up in plus 40, 50, and 60 A. One of those classes goes with the 450A guys, and the man still pulls holeshots to this day with nothing but confidence, and a properly tuned "slow" Honda 450.

I like the idea, the world has way more people that aren't confident in starts than others, which would make them buy anything.

I agree, if everybody has one, what it the point anyway.

There was a thing on 60 minutes not too long ago about cheating in bicycle racing events, including tour DE france.

It was about small electric motors and batteries that were used for tough climbs.

If you are wanting to try something for gyro affect why not use the battery that is becoming more common on estart bikes and tie it to a high torque electric motor.

Didn't domokos use something to spin the front wheel on the bike he used to wheelie around national tracks?

Remember, these guys are all really good at starts and they are wide open and know how to hook up. The devices do make them faster to the first corner, it just doesnt make them faster off the gate than the next guy who has a better reaction and launch/gate. So the result is everyone is sooooo close.

It doesnt work like that in local non pro racing. I say ban them in SX. Leave them for Nats and sell them to amateurs. Let them spend money to trick out their bikes, thats what we do!

Good starters will always get good starts...the same guys are at the front more often than not.

The device is good for dropping the bike low, it makes it easier to put in my van....it's the only time I use it.

Taking this idea in a different direction, what about a front wheel drive MX bike? I've seen the 2 wheel drive bikes but I'm wondering if front wheel drive only would work. I could see it for starts because the front wheel may stay down more but I'm not sold on how it would work the rest of the course. I do see a potential advantage in cornering.
