Actually he gave an interview a week Before Argentina in which he said he expected a win to be out of the question, but to battle for a podium and be disappointed to be outside top 5.

As for the OP and "where did all the experts go": you can have a fair discussion on if Herlings will ever dominate this class or even win the title. But anyone thinking that this is the max Herlings is capable of (a 13-7 finish in motos he didn't crash) has either never seen Herlings ride before or is just trolling.

3 rounds in, 3, this was the first 2 week break he had since the season started to actually ride and get further in the healing. He had a much better performance, watch him ride - look at his body language, now tell me does that look Herlings? No.

He is refusing to use the hand as an excuse, it clearly is and anybody with half a brain can see but he knows what the stupid ass majority of the internet and apparent MX fans are like so why allow them the chance to call him an excuse maker.

Come round 6 when back in Europe and let's revisit.
so it's round 6. JH seems like he is awake ?

i would just like to point that out the randy savage nutjob hahahaaa, i am not professing him to be a title combatant but at least he is near form, near form but when he gets to full form which isn't too far away then oooooooh.

No question this is a troll thread but he does have a point.

All of us remember Herlings talking crap about Febvre & Gajser winning MXGP titles...and how he beat them so easily in MX2.

All of us remember his fans on this forum calling him "The Fastest Rider in the World"....

All of us remember his fans telling us how he was going to easily win the MXGP title this year...

Now the tune has changed. Even though he has told interviewers many times that he is healthy, he is "Injured".

I seem to remember many of us saying 450's / MXGP was a whole new challenge, being fast in European Nationals, MXdN, etc wasn't a true representation of a full MXGP season and how not all of the riders in those races push at the same pace & intensity as they would in a GP. That his amazing MX2 record was won in one of the most age restricted & depleted MX2 classes in history, Austin Forkner & Cooper Webb both beat him, etc, etc, etc.

Of course much of this isn't Herlings fault, it's his internet fans. They write checks with their mouth/keyboard no 450/MXGP rookie could cash.

I think he is a 450 rookie who came into the class over confident (His own words), had a slight injury before the season, and is now paying his dues. He is figuring out 450/MXGP class raw speed & aggression. The days are over were he is 3 seconds a lap faster than anyone, expect to never get past or have riders never fight back after he passes them, get bad starts and still win by 30 seconds, etc. Those days are over and it's caught him by surprise.

If he can calm down and avoid the injuries that plagued his MX2 career he will win races and eventually championships. Just not this year. 2017 is going to be his learning the ropes, paying his dues year. Maybe he will win a moto or two, but I am starting to doubt it since he could not do it at home, in the deep sand, at a track he loves. Thats not a slight at him, like I have said 450/MXGP ain't no joke.

well he did well last weekend with a 3-3 ... mind you it was a sand track which is probably easier on his wrist? And he loves sand. And it was a 'home' (i.e. country) track ...still better than previous results.

Yeah I feel like something has to be up. It doesn't make sense. Every time he's been on the 350/450 against the top guys, he's been right there with them. Febvre and Gajser won in their rookie years and they could never hold a candle to Herlings.

Rookie growing pains. Hasn't had to race against anyone his speed in many years.

He will learn and get better and will be a 450 MXGP champ one day. Stamp it!
