In regards to 2017 250sx or Husky tc250...

Check out your reed cage! This is mine with 1 hour of use. The pictures don't do it justice, frickin thing looks like an open window when you hold it up to a light.

First 2 pics are stock reed cage, next pic is Vforce 4R, sealed perfectly.

was the stock jetting still way off still after the new reeds? Curious if the supplied jets/needles may work with a properly sealed Reed block. Thanks!

That I'm not sure, I changed my jetting up at the same time as doing this. Just starting it up and cracking throttle it is definitely improved but I'll have to ride and see how it does under load.

I'll post back in this thread when I ride if my jetting is an improvement.

Ive done the jetting on 4 different 17's now ( 3 SX's, 1 XC) and all of them had bad reeds. Just waiting for them to release a recall on it. Still can't fix the shitty carb they put on it..

Hey Seth....I actually just ordered my Vforce today! My reeds / cage weren't that bad , but they were warped enough that I wasn't going to take a chance on having a reed break and suck through my new motor. This is on a 17' TC 125 btw...

New Vforce should be here Thursday or Friday this next week.

They have been bad since 2016 as much reading as I've done on it. Some guys got lucky and got good ones , some guys never even checked , and some opened them up and found what Seth , Joe and Myself found....warped reeds! If they were going to do a recall on them , they would have done it about 1.5 years ago.

That's not the full problem though. The CF reeds are actually breaking , and sending those broken parts through the motors. But yes , some of the cages have burr's and so forth , making the problem even worse. I decided I wasn't even going to mess with the damn thing and then still have my reeds break , and just ordered a Vforce. The pic of the vforce Seth posted is why.....it's perfect. It's kind of an insurance policy as far as I'm concerned.

KTM drive me nuts with this shit. I don't get it...

Like blow everyone away with performance, weight, e-start, maintenance convenience, this and that... and then use a fork design that you'd have hated in the 80s, or warped reed blocks with petals made of slate...

It's like there is this one fat dumbass engineer who has nude photos of the CEO with a donkey and he just keeps letting shit through.

Shitty Reeds indeed. Maybe there's a reason why some KTM 2-strokes comes with a Vforce reed cage from the factory. Would've been better if they had it stock for the complete 2-stroke line Wink

Haha!! I hear ya man. This is my first Husky but it's all good. Almost every bike has something weird or wrong with it bone stock. Besides...even if the reeds were good , I'd probably slap a vforce in there anyways. Always loved using them in the past.

KTM had VForce's on their SX250s until..I wanna say 2014 or maybe '15. My 2013 SX250 had a Vforce and my current 2016 has the KTM one, so somewhere in between.

Anyway, it's no secret KTM has trimmed down on outsourcing its parts manufacturing, but the problem is they not only copied the wrong design (the KTM version is a Boyesen clone instead of a VForce which most people find to be better), but they also did a half ass job of it, as seen in this thread.

The dealer I got my 125 from must have knew what they were doing when assembling and prepping the bike prior to putting it in the showroom cause I haven't had any jetting issues that everyone else seems to be dreading on the 2017s.... I just give it a kick and it fires right up and runs great. 10 trouble free hours on it so far *knock on wood*.

So here's what mine does:
Initial start up, dialed. Warm up seems to take a while. Once warm- 5/8th to 3/4th throttle is garbage while on the stand, sounds like it's just loading up real bad.
But then on the track it's a striped ass ape but if you're at half throttle it isn't very clean sounding.

I'm literally doing the exact shit that all the pros and the manual says... and the spark plug comes out perfectly chocolate.

Haven't looked at the reed block.

Haha, it is frustrating that something this obvious would be bad out of the box. In the end, it's not a big deal for me, I would have bought and tried the Vforce for the hell of it either way just to tinker with it. The bike overall is so fun that it's still well worth it.

Mine was pretty similar to that, I messed with the jetting as well and will hopefully try it this weekend.

I don't have experience with the VF4, but I do with the VF3 on a 250SX.

The VF3 is/was junk! Constantly breaking petals.
Upgraded to a Boyesen Rad valve and no more issues! And the performance was better too.

Do they have aftermarket reeds for the 16+17 yet? I tried to order some in November and they still didn't have it done.

On my 17 tc250 the reeds are the same as the last couple of years. The block itself is different, but the reeds fit. I sanded the block down, threw some carbon boyesen reeds on there and the bike runs awesome now. It was a shit show before that trying to get the jetting dialed.

Joe , Boyesen has just came out with their CF reeds , and the Vforce 4 actually gets released and shipped today. When I called them yesterday , they only had a couple left for the 125. BUT.....said they have quite a few more coming within the next week. They probably won't hit places like motosports or any other bike shop until mid April.

Mill the squish down to .050 right Slip , if I remember right? I'm wondering what my stock 125 has as of right now? Wondering if they ( Husky ) made the head some what close to what they did on the 250? Could be milled wrong stock?

I know the local dealer rejets the carbs and claims they are fine. Welcome to cr owners nightmares, circa 2001 and up. Nothing can fix a tmx. Just buy a airstryker and be done with it dudes. After JD jet kts and every combination of oil ratio and experimenting I gave up, and bought a Keihin for my 2002 cr250. It has more roll on, more low mid and top. Put the tmx back on it one time just to see, had it back off ten minutes later. Every bike I have ever removed a tmx from ran better with a different carb. Even the mikuni TM is a better carb. But whatevs. Even a Keihin PJ is better.

My TC is better with the TMX than the PWK. I got a PWK 38-s for sale if you want it...
