For anyone who has had a tibial plateau fracture - have you had any follow up surgery? Mine is over 15 years ago now, and the range of motion in my knee has never been great - I was wondering if there are any options to go in and clean up the joint / articular surface and whether there is any potential improvement. The only other surgery I had was about 12-18 months post, where I had the plate and screws removed.
Cheers. Good luck with the recovery!

If I stand correctly the machine puts electrical signals true your nerves so they are full and can't accept any new info from your region that has pain. But like I said it isn't always effective, but if it is then it's cheap and easy to use.

Man, you are bringing back bad memories. Right leg TPF in 2001 during a dad's pit bike race. I have the same plate and screw fix as you do. I also have the same credit card size patch of numbness, except in is on the inside of my right leg, just over the incision area. I slacked on the rehab and it bit me in the ass (not even close to getting the back of my knee to touch the floor when sitting). I took up running a couple of years ago. I was doing as much as 30 -35 miles a week and running in 5k's 4 or 5 times a year. I have decreased my weekly mileage to about 15 a week after a coworker told me he was out jogging and compound fractured his tib/fib. He too had a prior injury that required plating, however it was not a TPF. Talk about scary............ I can't go through that sh*t again, especially not at 50 years old. I am scared to even ask an OS if the hardware should come out. I can honestly say, there has not been a day gone by where I have not experienced some sort of pain or numbness. Game over sums it up nicely.
Its probably a miracle I can even run. My right thigh is still noticeably smaller than the left. I heard TP199 had TPF in both legs. God help him when he gets my age.
I had the hardware out pretty quickly (I think at about 18 months) because I could feel the ends of screws on the inside, just below my knee and they were painful when I bumped them. The recovery from the removal was nothing though, no pain at all. The other reason I had them removed was that I was considering going back to racing, and didn't want to have the surgeries they explained to me would be required if I was to crash and bend the plate....
I can run, though I don't (only when I play other sports for fun etc). If I ran for fitness my knee would probably explode. I swim a few days a week as well as doing a lot of rock climbing. My theory is that the low impact sports will be better for it and osteoarthritis in the long run.
Thanks for the advice guys, really appreciate it!
Searching to find some answers to might be the outcome to mine. Just did this this past Sunday. Didn’t crash or anything just over shot a small rythem section when I had riders on both sides of me veering towards me. Currently waiting to go back Friday to see when the first surgery will be scheduled.
Searching
Plate and 6 screws to hold it together (still in). The first 2 years had a lot of pain and tingling and numbness there after. I’m 25 now and I rarely ever notice it. Except for when I’m shoveling dirt or something like that. That particular sets the pain off really bad. Every time the shovel hits the ground it feels like a guitar string snapping in my arm.
Pit Row
My break occurred 10-28-17 and I've been bedridden since. I cannot put any weight on my leg whatsoever for possibly 12 weeks. I hop on one leg using a walker to get to the bathroom. Tomorrow 12/1 is my first appointment back to the surgeon since the first ever appt.
My issue now is NOT my leg. My leg is fine. My knee cap is still swollen, certain ways I turn hurts my knee at times, but the excruciating pain is gone. I stopped the pain pills about 5 days after the accident occurred, except for taking one at bedtime and one if i have to go somewhere in a car as my leg sometimes hurts when its not elevated.
My leg is elevated above my heart 95% of the time. At first I could move my toes easily, and had NO issues with my foot whatsoever. Now, my entire foot is on fire. I feel shooting pains. My foot is not swollen, but feels like it is. It burns, constant pins and needles, burning, tingling, and feels like there's a bunch of wadded up socks in my arch. If someone ba rely touches it, it hurts.
Since I cannot start PT yet, I searched for a percussion-type massager with a long handle since my leg is in a brace and I cannot move it or bend it, and cannot put it on the floor since it has to be elevated. I found a long handled massager but its too heavy and i still have to stretch pretty far to reach my foot. Also, the first time i touched my foot with it, it was so intense (on lowest setting,) I about flew out of bed it hurt so bad.
I purchased a TENS unit on Amazon thinking putting the pulsating probes all over my foot would ensure it's at least getting some type of circulation of the blood. I received the unit, and put four sticky probes on the bottom side of my foot - on the heel, inside my arch, and below my toes, as close to my toes as I could stick them.
I turned the unit on, and gradually increased the intensity till I could feel it. With each increase, I felt nothing whatsoever. I increased the intensity as high as it would go and still felt nothing. The TENS unit didn't work.
I reached down to pull off the probes. The intensity was all the way up, i pulled off the first probe, screamed immediately and threw it! The unit was working, so well in fact that it shocked my hand when I touched it. THAT'S how numb my foot is, 32 days after the break.
Tomorrow I see the surgeon and will advise of the issues and see what her comment, suggestion will be.
Funny thing is it looks just like a police ankle bracelet so whenever anybody knew came over to my house or I was hanging out somewhere and someone would ask about it I would always tell them it was ankle bracelet and I was on house arrest and shit like that it was really funny how many people fell for it even when I was on crutches LOL
