Yup, rode all through the Salmon River area for years... sometimes running from the cops and rangers... LOL!

One time my buddies and I ran from the Hells Angels down there too! They were camping down along the river and had put a flag out by the dirt road to let the other Angels find where they were camped. The flag was pretty cool... so being young, dumb and full of testosterone, we decided we were going to swipe their flag. One of my buddies walked up to the flag and as he bent over to grab it, we heard a two-stroke fire up... and it was coming our way... fast!

What we didn't realize is one of them had a Yamaha YZ 250 and when they spotted us the dude with the YZ came after us. We almost crapped our pants as we took off down the dirt road. We wanted to get to our buddies house ASAP. A little way down the road, one of the guys crashed pretty good and the Angel caught up to us. Thought we were dead meat for sure!

Turns out they had no idea we tried to grab the flag... they heard our bikes and the guy with the YZ just wanted someone to ride with!!! We gracefully declined his invitation and told him our friend was pretty banged up and we wanted to get him home. Dude asked if he could help us and when we said no thanks, he took off back to camp. We all said "holy shit, lets get out of here" and headed back. What an adventure that was!

But I digress.

I have a few old JT Ellis pix somewhere I'll have to find and scan. At the '82 Southwick 500 National I didn't qualify so I spectated and snapped a few pix.

I have a Q for you Leigh. How's your Grandpa George? He used to come by the shop with the rig to pick up barrels of VP Race Fuel back in the day. Real good guy.

Used to watch your dad & Fink practice all the time back in the day! Reminds me of how old I'm getting!

BTW, which one are you in your avitar? Can't tell the pic is too small! (Or my eyes are shot!)

Jimmy lives in WA alright, but it's not in the United States.
He lives in West Austrailia.

Lethal,
If you happen to run into Jimmy sometime, please tell him for me that his old buddy from Windham, New Hampshire: Bobby Field said "Hi" to him and is asking how he is doing ?
I would love to be able to get ahold of him again and talk.
Thanks,
Bobby.

Let's all keep our fingers crossed that Jimmy gets in the AMA Hall of Fame (I know, can you believe he's not in yet?) this year. Good chance!

Just came across this, late to the show. Jimmy did make it into the hall of fame and is residing in Australia. He was up here in his home stomping grounds last year (2016) visiting in Connecticut USA. They had a Jimmy Ellis day at central village, Jimmy borrowed his sons bike and some riding gear. He was a little under the weather but still fast at 60 or 61 years old. Here is a Gopro video of me following him on one of the rides. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puR8NurHzNM

Leigh,
By WA., do you mean Washington?? I had no idea that he was in the States again. It's been a while since I'd seen him in the Connecticut (Cobalt, East Hampton) area. You may have been to young to remember, but your dad was known for honing his MX skills along the CT river in the Weathersfield- Rocky Hill cove. This was a great area to ride, but the pesty police would often spoil the fun. Ironically, this same area is the home of one of the only legal practice tracks in CT today.
Anyway, good to here that he's doing well. If I find more video or pics I'll put them here.
Sonny, Do you mean he used to practice along the river where CTMX is now in Rocky Hill, or the Rocky Hill-Cromwell sand pits on the town line where the TPC golf course is now? The sand pits were really sandy with alot of hilly terrain. We still practice there now, but it's about 25% of the size it used to be in the 70-80s since the golf course took over alot of the land.
