By that logic, every single factory rider was hand picked. Hand picked would be scouting a rider, approaching said rider and getting him. Which was not the case. Comprehend? he was completely off the radar. Zero interest. Dungeys perseverance and a mechanic with a good eye take the credit. It was still a luke warm reception after signing him. Those are Dungey and Rogers words. Which only makes Dungeys story better. Dude had it stacked against him the entire way. Always overlooked, wasnt supposed to be there. Its a bitchin story, Dungey made Dungey. His story is by far more impressive than any other rider out there except for maybe Reeds. An aussie kid who had no business coming to america and racing sx. Remarkable. Both of them.

Hand picked to me means one person made the decision & by this definition RD was hand picked by Roger, as in Roger made the call to include him in their program.

Congrats to Team Dungey for their persistence. .Think of how many times Roger has said no to scouted riders.

Roger looks at you, likes what he sees, and signs you. Ryan gets a race to race contract. You've been handpicked...by The Man no less.

no you're missing the point..........you are confusing "hand picked" with "discovered".............except for McGrath none of your "greats" were complete unknowns..........that weren't on anyones radar or groomed from 5 years old to be a factory rider........Roger gave him a shot and obviously developed him on 2 different programs into championship contender............Dean Wilson just got hand picked, mookie didn't, in case you need clarification Wink Wink

Everyone else on a factory team was hand picked. Amart, webb, and anderson were all hand picked by decoster last year. He also hand picked pastrana. And MM. And canard. I was hand picked to build a fence last weekend.. Its awesome

Those Reed stats are remarkable when you consider the riders he faced in his first 7 years. And since then he has had a bunch of guys with ridiculous speed to contest with.

RIcky Carmichael and James Stewart at their primes. Ryan Villopoto at his prime. Ryan Dungey at his prime.

Tomac. Roczen. Not title winners yet. But riders that are hard to beat.

He has beaten them all straight up. At times he has beaten 3 of those guys at once... his win at Anaheim in 2014 he had to pass Bubba, Dungey and RV. Roczen aswell.

Can you explain what you are including in that? Specifically the MX category and RC. How do you come up with 70 races in 7 seasons and 83%? What does 83% mean?

He won 7 straight big bike titles and the only races I'm aware of that he missed in those 7 seasons in 250/450 MX is the one he dropped down to the 125 class to get the wins record. He should have at least 84 races right?

And Dungey raced 75 races in a 7 x 12 race seasons? I guess last year was his 7th season? 84/75 = 89% which makes sense.

His "first" 250 season in SX he raced the 125 outdoors. Minus 12 races.
2001 his first season on the 250 outdoors they only had 11 rounds and RC only raced 10 of those (like you mentioned he ran the 125 at Steel City) so minus 2 races = 70 races
