You have to take the time to get to know the riders. At least that's what did it for me. I stuck with it, and now I'm hooked. Those guys haul ass and put on a great show with plenty of drama. I can't wait for the season to start! As usual pulling for Febvre and hoping 222 wins it all too.

The Outdoors does very little to grow the sport of mx. There are not very many races, in obscure areas, with little to no marketing locally or on tv, the TV package is much harder for someone to locate and follow. The participants don't make very much money on average.

SX on the other hand are in way bigger markets (woah Texas Stadium?) advertises more, has an easier tv package to follow and the participants make more money on average.

The main people who are into the outdoors are already into moto, how does that help the motorcycle industry expand? (Motorcycle sales are important to businesses selling motorcycles)

Most people are NEVER going to ride either sx or the outdoors.

Which series you want to survive only has to do with which perspective your looking at it from.
The entire sport grew from outdoors, so that pretty much obliterates your first comment.

Well said. This talk about more supercross and less outdoors lately absolutely infuriates me. I don't know what I'll do. Can't say I'd turn my back on the sport, because it's all I've known, but that would be a very sad day and the resentment I would have toward Feld and SX may just be the end of me really giving a shit about pro racing.

Edit: Meant to quote TBteam.
Wow, you expressed my feelings exactly.

I used to rank the US nationals first then SX and last MXGP.

This have changed for me. I find the GPs the most interesting, especially since the 450 class is incredibly stacked with the wide open 250 class. And the EMX classes are also very interesting and fun the watch.

And the tracks are never the same. Different riders are better at certain races in the GPs because of the large variation of track layouts and dirt.

And the GPs provide by far the best viewing package with MXGP-TV. 129€ for all GP races, EMX races and MXdN. That is called bang for the buck.

Would you feel the same way about watching MXGP races if the GP guys disguised themselves with AMA numbers and bike graphics on US tracks?
I have found that the GP series has interested me way more since Villopoto competed. This still only compels me to check race results, and then passively watch the races on TV.

Still, this is not a series that I will go off the grid for to keep everything 'fresh' for the broadcast. I want my boy Gajser to win, and I even attended Charlotte in 2016; but, even with 'my boy' winning the last two seasons, I do not see the GP championship more interesting than Tomac winning the last two supercross races.

I agree . Herlings moving to MXGP really makes an already stacked class all the more interesting. And yes the 250s should be great .Of course I'll be rooting for Covington and Sanayei Smile

Loose Supercross and then you could add a lot more tracks to the Outdoors like WW Motocross Park in Jacksonville, Florida and others. WW Motocross Park is a very nice facility, with a very nice staff, and most of all an awesome well groomed track.

Last year my buddy and I drove from Green Bay, WI to PA for the High Point National. We were up by 6:00 and at the track before the crew even showed up. We literally walked right in because nobody was at the gate. Don't worry, we had our tickets already! There is nothing better than getting to the track in the morning and seeing everything look absolutely perfect with a layer of fog hovering over the track. That 5 minutes alone when you get to the track is better than any supercross race in it's entirety. Screw Supercross.
You get it. Magic!

I like the way you think because I live five miles from there. However, doubt it will happen. Since it is on flat ground, it would be hard for spectators to see much of the track. I'm all for it though, and I will definitely show up if it ever happens. I wish Junior and his crew every success.

Outdoors for sure, although SX is fun to watch for 4 races but i get bored fast.
If the racing is not fun and entertaining like now for instance it's just boring and i'm ready for the outdoors to come around.
And even if the racing is good all year there is nothing that lifts me up better than an good outdoors race.
Outdoors are available for every skill level and fun for ever skill level.
SX is only for a very small % of all dirt bike racers so outdoors will always carry more support from the racers themselves.

With exception of Vegas and Daytona all SX tracks are so similar that I tend to think 17 rounds are way to much. I'd like more variety in track design. A track like that manufacturers cup one from last fall would give it. Even some woodden obstacles like in the 80s would make it more worth watching than the same track over and over again.

Outdoors is the real thing. I like to be at the track from 8am to 5pm.

Supercross is cool but it has nothing on MX. You wanna see riders really push the edge and the best battles are always outdoors.

It's money that matters, so expanded Supercross is inevitable, and WHEN, not IF, that occurs, it will effectively neuter the outdoor nationals. I find that heartbreaking, as I'm an outdoor guy thru and thru. Here's my question then: is there a possibility the Canadian National series could become the "CanAm" series and include Red Bud, Unadilla, Washougal, Southwick, and Millville? That would be amazing. And since American riders would get to pick a series instead of doing both, the CanAm series could extend into the autumn months like the TransAm of old - and THAT would be a win/win of epic proportions. Ask any of us who watched DeCoster battle Hannah while enjoying a hot cup of chili to keep the October chill at bay - it was the BEST.

If motocross dies, there is no supercross. Can't say the same for the other way around.

I also took an interest in the MXGPs when Villopoto went but when I saw what a shit series it was with those tracks and locations I lost interest quick. It could be a good series but they need to dump the bad tracks and shit locations.Sad

There will always be grass roots motocross in the USA but most riders want to go from MX tracks to SX tracks as they get better. The nationals may die way down but local MX will always be around. I would much rather ride on a MX track but I like watching SX better than the nationals.

In no way did I mean that motocross would die if the pro racing side of it died. I just feel it is unacceptable for Feld to extend their series into the nationals therefore causing them to shorten or eliminate it. Supercross season is long enough already and it is one massive advertisement in between all the commercials. It is difficult to watch.

MX, don't have to fight through the SX crowd to go to the restroom, plenty of tree's outdoors.

Outdoors for sure. If you kill the outdoors, then I think the larger Amateur programs like Loretta's, NMA, Regional AMA races, etc. start declinng rapidly after that.
