Spot on. Shoot outs are a fun read and interesting. And most likely a blast to partake in. But if you think I'm buying a certain bike based on what ML or teamgreen thinks, you're nuts!

I never thought using a majority of pro level riders was ever a good idea for shootouts when the vast majority of riders are C level (or honestly, below)

Everybody has a preference but it sure doesn't hurt to be riding the bike that is the hands down consensus pick. I read reviews on nearly everything I buy nowadays so that I feel confident that I'm making a well informed purchase.

They CAN give you an idea of what they relate to each other, like you I find them interesting but I do not base what I pick on the shootout results...some do.

In saying that, I find Vitals shootouts the most honest...so tend to read them more carefully than I do others.

Yup, pretty low value in shootout. I always get a kick out of the guy who ranks the 5th place bike first.... and he just so happens to own and race that bike.....

I like to read the shootouts but, if you don't take them all with a grain of salt you're nuts. I trust ML and Mannys opinion on what they thought were the positives and negatives of each bike just as I trust MXAs and Pings opinions... but they are just that opinions! As ping states if you have a developed positive relationship with a dealer that provides you quality service and support that should weigh heavily in your decision as they are all good motorcycles these days!

That being said I'm a Kawi guy and will probably always be so I don't really have to worry about it anymore!!! Tongue

10yrs ago you would have asked that question about KTM. 3yrs ago you would have asked it about Husqvarna.

I doubt you could go wrong with either today.

They were more helpful back in the '80's, for example, I bought an'86 RM125 because of a good local dealer when the mags said the CR125 was the bike to ride that year. I should have listened. Now I think the bikes are actually really good, back then, not so much.
