Rode a 350 and felt like it was lacking bottom end, had a lot of top end and loved to be revved but no real bottom end.

Im on a 16 YZF250 and that thing has way more bottom end than the 350 but I need some more power up top being that I ride an open class against 450s.

Any fix for that on a 350? Im looking at a white one and have read a few things on what to do, but any recommendations from you Manny?
Yes there is a fix for it. As I understand it most KTM's lack bottom other than their 450. They tend to make their engines with lots of top end it seems.

The 350 fix is a set of DCR cams and a thumper racing 380cc big bore. Now you could try the big bore kit alone and that might be enough. I already had the DCR cams when I got the big bore so I can not report on the big bore kit alone. My bike now has a bottom end!

Just go up a tooth or 2 in the rear. My opinion is they do have plenty of grunt down low, not quite as much as a 450 of course, but a simple gearing change and it really helps the short shifts you would have between 2nd and 3rd.

I am saying that.

After riding mine (16 yz250f and a 17 350 back to back, i have no problems saying that.

The 350 has a lot more top end and seems like it will pull as long as you want it to, but you have to get a lot higher into the revs for that to happen.

Last summer my brother hurt his left foot two days before a race and couldn't shift the bike. He left his 350 in second gear the entire race, revved the piss out of it when needed and lugged it when needed but nevertheless, placed top 3 in his class without ever touching the shifter. That my friends is a do-it-all motor.

A few guys I know have gone up 2 teeth in the rear and it really helps. The 350 makes a lot more torque down low then your Yamaha (look at a dyno chart) but a 350 feels "soft" because it is geared much taller. I only went up one tooth in the rear and have been happy with it. Remember you have to rev a 350...It has a very short stroke and was never really built to be a tractor.

Finally pulled the trigger and picked up a new 16 350sxf, got it for 8400 out the door with tax and fees included, what are you guys running for skid plates, anything I should look out for on this bike can't wait to get it set up

Could also just ride it in it's powerband, no? Come ride my RM144 for a few laps. You'll think that 350 has lots of low end! Grinning

These are by far my favorite posts on vital! Love it.
Just by looking at the picture, type of riders, form, environment. A ttr 125 has enough power to holeshot this class, handled by the average C classer who has half an idea on starting technique.

Alrighty this is my 17th time reading my entire way through a 350 thread. I think I'm going to just try to find a low hours 2014-2015 so it doesn't break the bank and I can have money to get the suspension dialed.

Now to check out some 2014 shoot outs!

Damn that looks good. I'm a vet C- rider and always thought that 450s were too crazy for me. I have a 134 now that I love, but I miss the luxury of a 4 stroke power band.

Everyone with a 350 should pull the fuel pump out of the tank and look for a kink next to the filter.

What are the symptoms of that problem? Mine has always ran great. Did you get a new fuel line if it had a kink?

Long pulls on high rpm it starts to lean out.
It's impossible to find the Nylon 5/16" corrugated plastic high pressure hose. I ordered Dorman 800-147 in hopes it's close. You can use gates high pressure hose but it's submerged in fuel, not sure how long it will last. Then you need the 8mm ear stainless clamps or high pressure rated fuel injection clamps, the pump has 52psi.
It's a real pain the in Ass.

Eventually the pump will fail and its 300$.

Could a guy make a stiffener out of a piece of more rigid tubing that's slit in half and hose clamped to the line at that point? Or maybe it's forced to make a hard bend at that point?

I tried. Once the plastic is kinked, it's fucked.. the integrity and strength is gone. It's a Mickey Mouse setup by KTM, I'm disappointed

I have to chime in. First, I'm not brand loyal. What ever bike works for me is the one I buy, period. I've owned 23 new mx bikes in my life. I've tried all the brands, all the displacements (one caveat, I do love the KTM150sx!!), and to date my 2012 350sx has easily been the best bike I've thrown a leg over. I did put rubber bar mounts, race tech suspension, which also made this the best suspension I've ever bought, run 25% vp4u in 93 octane pump fuel and a 51 tooth rear sprocket. The 25% VP4U is the best bang for the buck and wakes the machine right up. I'm a VET A ,mid-top revver, and this bike just does what I want it to do, carves inside, outside, whatever and never leaves me wanting more power. This bike just simply put the fun back in mx for me. It's like being on a 250SX for the rev factor with the grunt and stability of a 350 four stroke. It makes you work a little to go fast, but puts a shit eating grin on your face as your revving it, or you can lug it around and just have a relaxing ride. I was on a 2007KX 250 with some engine work and thought I would never love another bike like it, until I did a moto on a 2011 KTM350. I bought a 350 the following week and haven't looked back. Never have I thrown a leg over a bike and instantly loved it. I'm thinking hard about a 2016 350, but I'm still enamored with my girl. Are there better bikes? Maybe, but I like 'em all, just the 350 for me has no rivals. As a 50 year old mxer, give me any of them, I love all mx bikes.
I would pay attention to this guy.

I give it a week, week and a half tops and you'll be gone...

I think this is a isolated incident as its the 1st I've ever seen. Considering how many people have pulled fuel pumps to swap tanks, I wouldn't panic....

Sorry but this is an extremely common occurrence. I saw 4 more people on Vital with this issue, it's why I checked mine
