I bought a Cycra YZ restyle kit for my son's 2012 YZ125. I preferred the shape of the Cycra restyle side panels over the other kits, and the parts seem well made, but for the life of me I cant figure out how these side panels are supposed to fit. I called Cycra 3-4 days ago and confirmed I had the right parts and still waiting for them to get back to me on what's going on, but here is the deal and I have attached some pictures that show the issue.

You can see the gap between the side panel and the subframe where it mounts with the seat bolt and there is a very large tab on the right side of the rear fender that is pushing the side panel out and preventing it from laying properly on the subframe. I am thinking they may have added this unusual tab to keep the side panel off the silencer, but it is far too large and not a minor fitment issue a sit is off by about an inch. For you guys that have this kit, how did you make it fit, cut the tab off?

No, it is made for the 2014 and earlier airbox like the UFO restyle kit.

Have you got them slid all the way in the airbox grooves? Looks to be the problem. And no, you don't have to have the new airbox for this kit.

Where and when did you buy it?

I'm pretty certain they came out with kits for 15-16 models before they came out with the 05-14 kits. So maybe you have a 15-16 kit that was labeled wrong or someone made a mistake when determining fitment.

05-14 kits should work with your airbox.

15-16 kits won't work with your airbox.

Your 2012 airbox fits:

Year: 2014 Part: AIR CLEANER CASE ASSY Part Group: intake
Year: 2013 Part: AIR CLEANER CASE ASSY Part Group: intake
Year: 2012 Part: AIR CLEANER CASE ASSY Part Group: intake
Year: 2011 Part: AIR CLEANER CASE ASSY Part Group: intake
Year: 2010 Part: AIR CLEANER CASE ASSY Part Group: intake
Year: 2009 Part: AIR CLEANER CASE ASSY Part Group: intake
Year: 2008 Part: AIR CLEANER CASE ASSY Part Group: intake
Year: 2007 Part: AIR CLEANER CASE ASSY Part Group: intake
Year: 2006 Part: AIR CLEANER CASE ASSY Part Group: intake
Year: 2005 Part: AIR CLEANER CASE ASSY Part Group: intake
Year: 2004 Part: AIR CLEANER CASE ASSY Part Group: intake

I bought the kit from Motosport last week. I checked the part numbers with Motosport and they are correct. The panel is properly inserted into the airbox.. There is not any problem with the airbox.. it doesn't fit the subframe with that tab as it hits the subframe so the panel is an inch away from where it bolts together with the seat.

Care to share any part numbers off the packaging?

The rear fender is 1CYC-1514-62 and fits 2003-2016 YZ's
The side panels are 1CYC-2777-42 and fits 2005-2014 YZ's

I was just looking at the Yamaha part numbers for the subframe and the subframe is a new part number for 2015/16. I wonder if the tab is there for the 2015+ subframe, but you have to cut it off for earlier subframes. there are no instructions and even Cycra has not been able to provide me with any info yet. I figure I cant possibly be the first person to try and figure this out.

I haven't heard back from Cycra over the past week, but here is what I believe I figured out. The Cycra rear fender as it comes out of the package does not fit the side panels that they sell in the kit. The stock Yamaha 2015-16 OEM rear fender has that tab, but the 2014 and earlier OEM fender does not (subframe was also changed for 2015-16) and there is no way that the 2005-2014 restyle panels will fit without cutting that tab off. The Cycra rear fender is advertised as 2003-16, but there is no way that is possible w/o modifying that rear fender for 2003-2014 bikes and there is no mention or explanation provided to the buyer in the package.

The rear fender is 1CYC-1514-62 and fits 2003-2016 YZ's The side panels are 1CYC-2777-42 and fits 2005-2014 YZ's

Since they took a short cut and made one fender for 2003-2016 instead of two, at least they should give you a heads up that the tab needs to be cut off for it fit 2014 and earlier models.

I also would like to see some pics if you get it all matched up. I have a UFO kit on my 2014 and am curious how the Cycra looks!

Yes, please post some mounted pics. Thank you for the info.

Pretty lame to not give info on fit.

What's the difference between the Cycra re-style kit and the one from UFO? I wasn't much of a fan of the UFO one but then it grew on me until Yamaha came out with the new look.

Not a big fan of the R-Tech kit either so post some pics of the Cycra kit when you can. I've never seen it and I'm curious to see what it looks like.

Thanks!

It is dark in the garage now so pics not great, but here are a few pics after cutting the tab off the fender with a hot melt knife. This rear fender is really meant for a 2015-16. It is heavier, thick plastic and not lightweight, but decent quality except for the problem mentioned above.

I used the Cycra front and rear restyle fenders and side plates, but OEM Yamaha 2014 radiator shrouds which I think look better then the cartoonish shape of the 2015 shrouds IMHO.

Those mimic the look of the new style Yamaha came out with so I will say that looks better than the UFO kit.

Personally I still prefer the new style Yamaha but the Cycra is not bad and probably a lot cheaper to do than switching everything over to the '15 plus Yamaha style.

If the cost is similar to the UFO kit and I was on a budget I would hands down pick the Cycra kit.

Or you can take your Dremel and get free panels in about 10 minutes, in whichever style you like...

Bike looks great, what about that Camaro sitting next to it? I would like to see some more of that.
