Sorry if this has already been touched on, but does it rub anyone else the wrong way that they suspend and fine guys like anderson, peick, or reed BC of unsportsmanlike actions and say its a bad image, but then Feld puts it in commercials and highlights?

I think it's ok. They have to keep those things from getting too far out of control, but on the other hand, it's good for ratings if you show your intended audience that things can get a little crazy at times.

It is somewhat hypocritical to promote Peick's fight on commercials (in front of fans), and then suspend Anderson for smacking someone on the back of the helmet twice (in front of fans). I don't see the difference.

I have mixed feelings about it. I think JA's penalty might have been a little bit too stiff. I would have made him start in the gate backwards in the main and called it even. I think theres better ways to punish these guys than taking them out of the championship. As far as showing it on commercials, if they figure out a way to fairly penalize the riders, then I am good with it.

I don't see an issue. Do people think riders are encouraged to flaunt the rules because of what is shown in commercials? If there is a correlation, it's insignificant. Anderson's emotions got the better of him, and he acted like a bonehead...that's it.

Show the reason for the penalty - sure.

But to then use it incessantly for promotion purposes - well it shows a pretty pathetic way to promote such a dynamic / exciting sport.

But, FELD can do any damned thing they please. They could tell the FIM, or the AMA ( if they have anything really to do with Feld SX still?) to go 'pound sand', as you Yanks say.

Though, a World Championship 'tag' still means something to FELD, I think - and, if they tried to use that, without the FIM sanction, I think some quite high end Swiss Barristers would be involved in the subsequent litigation. No matter your / my view of them, they are the pre-eminent Motorcycle Race Sanction / Controlling body, recognized as such within the MC Sports community (and by the Manufacturers), And the 'outside of the sport' world, and almost certainly hold the 'rights' to the "World Championships" title.

How many times do we see Weston throwing punches in a commercial on a Saturday night? Seems a little strange to use the video of the action to promote it, but penalize it at the same time. I understand that Feld, the AMA and the FIM are separate entities.

ones a promotion, ones the rule enforces, they have different jobs,

most sports replay penalties, and altercations, its part of the hype, in motorsports Nascar is the same,

To expand on this, I don't think FELD could give a rats ass what the AMA/FIM say. In my opinion, whether SX is sanctioned by AMA/FIM or not won't make one iota of difference. If SX is going to happen in the US of A, FELD is going to be the one promoting it, with or without AMA/FIM. In a nutshell, SX happening anywhere inside the boarders of the US will be done by FELD.

Yeah I think it is an easy answer. Look at other sports. Do you see college football showing fights on their commercials? However on the flip side hockey does use the fights in order to get fans in the stands. So if fighting is a big deal to the officials then I would say they should not use it in their own commercials.

It's 100% hypocritical. But I'm sure there's some kind of release Feld has the riders sign that gives them rights to use any footage as they wish.

Oh I understand why they do it, and have no question they are allowed to. Jw how many ppl felt it was contradictory.

Next question I get from this is, is there a scenario where someone is causing such a scene that the ratings are off the chart, but sanctioners feel they have to ban him a season causing a fight between them and Feld. Closest thing I think of is James' ban.

So you're saying that the officials are the ones responsible for what is shown in the commercials?

Has anyone made any spoof videos of Andersons deal? The Peick incident went crazy.

This. Feld and FIM have different agendas to meet a common goal.

One other thing I would add is I don't think the penalty really has anything to do with trying to keep a professional image intact, I just think they have to draw the line somewhere and if you just let physical altercations go ahead, you could find yourself in uncontrollable situations from time to time.

Officials? As in what? Did I use the word officials? Feld is in control of everything on the track and on TV. Nothing happens without their permission or direction if it is planned in advance.
