I got SG12's after 10 years with Alpinestars. They are the best boot I have ever put on. They feel extremely safe and comfortable. The only down side is they make so much noise when walking around the pits. Everyone can hear me coming 50 yards away. WD40 works for a little bit but they go back to being noisy. Low price to pay for an extremely high quality boot. Anyone on the fence...just buy them. Also mine were used every weekend for half the summer and show zero wear. The white is even white still.
I wore mine to the dunes a couple times and ever since I've sounded like a Tin Man that forgot his oil can every time I take a step.
I also find that the toe cap sticks out a bit too far, might try wittling them down a bit.

The stars are wearing the boots they are paid to where. Usually the highest bidder. Unless the team makes it a condition that they wear what the team contacts.

With only a few top boot companies, lots of dudes just ride for free boots and maybe a little bit of dough if they're doin good. Only a handful of guys get paid decent for them.

I wouldn't base what gear i choose off of what the pros are wearing because of this. That being said i usually look here or to reviews on things, however most people won't admit that something they plopped down $500+ on sucks.

I tried a pair a couple years ago and they seemed like great boots, but they felt clunky to me after being accustomed to the more compact modern boots. I currently wear Fox Instincts and love the feel, just wish that all boots had more forward rotating protection.

I've always worn Alpine Stars, but I did own a pair or Gaerne boots about 3 years ago. I liked them, but switched back to Alpine Stars just because I feel more at home in them.

Best boots no doubt. And I wear Tech10's that I love. But they are not as well made.

But no doubt I'll do that to mines, both Gaerne and SIDI.

I really like Gaerne boots, I still wear some SG-1 from at least 10 years ago. The problem I have with the SG-10 or SG-12 is that they're really heavy. I've been trying to find the lightest most protective boots these days but it's not the easiest thing to do since lightweight and protective don't always go together. It looks like Fox Instincts are the lightest high end boots right now.

and most will tell you Fox are about as protective as Reebok cross trainers. Jett was a good one for lightweight and protective, with a pretty good price point (around 400), but they don't have a US vendor anymore. Pourcel still wears them I think. Very similar to Sidi with a small toebox, but lighter because of the synthetic materials used (zero break-in time needed)
