Hey everyone just wanted to ask if anyone else has heard of the yz250f's snapping connecting rods? I talked to a machine shop today and they said the hp of the bikes has made an issue on the 14's and newer. The stock rod is a cast unit, but they replace them with a billet carillo rod and use an oem bearing and pin

Yes it is a known common problem. There have been several post on the and other forums about this issue.

read about the new ones. mxa I think talks about it with the 17 model. yes,the rod is a weak unit.many have snapped. I put a carillo in my 15' with a 16' je piston.better oiling and new oil jet. if you don't know read up on the other parts that need updated.

They are complete junk, replace it before it throws you over the bars or sends you spiraling straight down after takeoff. I have a brand new Carrillo rod if your looking for one

Is this just the rod or pin and bearings as well.

What rod is everyone using? Obviously the carillo is recommended, but has anyone else used another brand that isn't quite as spendy? My bike is a 2014 and I only want to keep it for next year

I've been told that the others aren't much better and that's why I went with the Carrillo. It's a lot cheaper to spend the couple hundred extra now and have a bottom end that should last a very very long time then to put something in that's not as good and have it fail which in return will cost you 3-4000

I work at a shop and we just have hot rods and Pro x in our catalog obviously but I'm weary of those brands. Pro x is usually oem quality but that's not saying much in this case. I just saw hot rods complete stroker crank. I've had a few friends who've ran them. I was interested in the rod they sell because it's forged. Usually we don't put wiseco or hot rods cranks in. If the others are not sufficient quality I will go with a carillo. Anyone used a 2017 yz250f rod? I've even read about a kx 250f rod?

No worries, at first I thought you meant a rebuilt crank with new Carrillo and was going to say that's a hell of a deal.

I had 100 hours of racing with only a single valve adjustment. No problems, but I shift often and never reach rev limiter. Now 60h with OEM rod and piston, also no problems. Only had to replace a single tran. gear as it started to wear out (3rd).

I think it all depends on how you ride it
