Howerton at Rio Bravo in 1973, when you still had to go through the creek instead of over it. The extreme body English here is partly due to his bike having steering head issues during this moto--he said the forks were trying to fall off, dunno whether he meant that literally. The AMP bikes he and Steve Stackable were riding that year were CZs with trick frames and all the lightness the sponsor could buy, but finishing races was an issue. Finishing both motos meant $$ so he must have been nursing it around, because I doubt their sponsor paid them much of a salary. Free bikes/parts/gear/van/mechanic/travel allowance was a good deal back then if you weren't from California and were capable of top 10s at Nationals. Howerton would ride a shop-sponsored Husky in 1974, with Husqvarna finally picking him up after he won the last 250 National of the year, and I think the Trans-AMA 250 support class after that.
