the riders will be fine... but what about the poor mechanics that have to huff it up that damn hill to the start line?
I wouldn't even let mechanics up there to be honest. It's a metal start pad so no gate packing needed. If they stall their bike and can't get it started they have a massive hill to roll down to bump start it. Goggles should be on before the sight lap. No need.

I just watched the SX live from there and they did a couple starts from the gate.

Observations: looks pretty sketchy and obviously fast but I don't think this will be a big deal. The bottom is pretty G-out-ish but they seemed to handle it just fine.

That start will be soooo crazy Whistling
Put 19 other riders within a few inches of him at those speeds... not even close to the same thing... Kurt was fast. and is a legend. But these are two different ball games. The pay the "pro" caliber riders receive in each type of racing reflects that as well...

I made a thread last year about the start after they announced what they were doing this year and was promptly called a pussy.

Did you really just try to equate the difference in level of pay to pros to the level of racing or competition, or skill or risk?

Are you 15? Legit question

Can we just let the professionals decide if the track is too dangerous?

The start seems like suicide - 165' from gate to floor, 270' from transition to first turn, 435' total length, and 33 degree incline.. I'd guess they peak somewhere around 70mph?! Imagine any set of riders tangling up at that momentum...
And the half pipe for fmx is a f'ing wall! The riders seem timid just looking at it let alone competing on it..
Has Monster Energy Circus gone too far this time or is this really falling to be the comfortable norm for the sport?

Well i just watch some starts the real problem is you start on a level pad and hop off unloaded onto the grates. So the back tire can move around. Since you ate going downhill, you cant maneuver the same as on flat ground, uour momentum will wanna keep you going straight down hill. Then you get to 5th gear before the turn. I think it is sketchy. Maybe not, but what happens if we have some pileups? You would think they would set up something and test it with a full gate before live tv. Maybe they did.
