I think he's supposed to stick around until Dunge retires. Heard somewhere it was in Dunge's contract but who the hell knows.
Apparently you cannot use the term; because you have no idea what it means.

The only way that case could be made is if he started hiring/training his riders to perform publicity stunts for attention rather than race professionally. That would define "jumping the shark".

I discovered MX about the time DeCoster retired from racing but I appreciate his accomplishments. He's a bad dude! I have his autograph and I cherish it. I respect him. But I also think his age affects his ability to be effective in a world of kids who barely remember his days as the Suzuki manager, let alone his days as a Dirt Bike Magazine contributor, Team Honda manager, or racer. Barcia won't give Vuillemin his due props so how is the next up and coming KTM kid going to understand and give proper respect to DeCoster? I don't know the answer, but I think the question is a valid one.

Perhaps I I did not choose my words wisely in the original post but I think having an elderly man (sorry but 70's is elderly - he probably gets prescriptions via Medicare Part D) managing a team of kids old enough to be his grand kids has started to seem a little awkward to me. It has nothing to do with my knowledge of the sport. Look around outside of motocross. It's not very common to see such workplace dynamics. (I work for a company of over 2000 employees and we don't have any managers that old). So sorry for the poor choice of words in the original post but to me it's starting to seem weird.

That's cool man...this is vital mx and talking shit to one another is part of the fun...It's safe to say we're all motoRcross Wink fans here and the love of the sport is what drives us to sarcasm.

Despite your expert opinion on his ability to relate to his team and how awkward you find it, they don't appear to share your sentiment. Your ageist prejudice of RD doesn't seem to be based on any facts other than his age, which is probably one of his greatest assets.

When he decides he is finished, he'll be finished. I would be shocked to see anyone who would be unwilling to give him a job until that time comes.

My 7 year-old boy and I got to speak briefly with Mr. Decoster at the GHGP. Roger did me a solid and said to my son.." You know you are a very lucky young man to have a father who brings you to the motocross races"....pure class. I'm 55 years-old and been a fan since I was 10, just stoked to shake his hand and thank him for all he's done for American MX.

Like the old saying goes DeCoster has forgotten more than most of these guys will ever know.. Theres a few of the young guys that seem smart enough to learn but there sure are a bunch that seem like Morons or is that Morans... Brain Fade seems pretty rampant with several of them ..

Decoster is to Motocross what Arnold Palmer is to golf. When you have a certain level of skill, knowledge, and experience, over several decades, you command a level of respect that transcends age groups. Don't hate. Just appreciate.
