So I started watching some of the Alta Motors youtube videos.

It looks like they have came a long way. I thought I heard somewhere that Josh Hill will be riding one at Straight Rhythm.

These things are gonna put an end to the old 2 stroke 4 stroke argument.

You would have to think that the Japanese companies have to have some of these things in the prototype phase. If not they are asleep at the switch.

I think they are doing a good job on their youtube channel with some of these dusted videos. Imagine how funny the races are gonna be when everyone can here you cussing the guy in the cornerWoohoo

They need to make more of these videos.

Too expensive at this point. Wish KTM would sell one in the US for under $10k.

I would have to think the Japs have something going.

KTM does. But it sucks. They may have some better secret stuff going on.

I can absolutely see the future of the sport being electric at some point. How near or far in the future that is I'm not sure at this point. But it will happen. And we might find ourselves with new places to ride.

From what I can tell Alta is not a publicly traded company, where do I go to invest. This is the future imo and I don't have any problem with that

First new motorcycle I'm even toying with the idea of. I certainly enjoyed the Supermoto, Moto and Flat Tracking they're doing on their YouTube page.

I don't even bother riding my whizzer in the neighborhood because of the sound reverberation

Wait for it....wait for it....Ok!!

Go ahead and post guy that says he will never, ever, ride a bike that doesn't make noise and that it won't be any fun.

How fun could it possibly be to not have to put earplugs in if your anywhere near the starting line? How much fun could it possibly be to have unlimited power maps at your disposal on a bike that makes enough torque to shoot you to the moon?? How much fun is it to go around the track faster than you ever did on a gas burner???

Go ahead and post it fella, we'll be waving to you as we go by. You will be sitting on the sidelines in 5 years simply because you won't ride superior technology that doesn't make SOUND! Hahahahahahah, that's all you will be hearing as I whiz by on my new 10k USD and US manufactured electric mx bike.

I gotta admit i laughed about the thought of a electric Mx bike.......until i rode one at glen helen....they are fast as hell...and all the power goes to the ground....but with the nearly no sound and no engine breaking....it a steep learning curve to corner one of these silent monsters... The power is beyond impressive...makes a 450 feel like a 250f .....its kinda scary fast....u dont have really any idea how fast your going.....these things are no joke....but then are alittle awkward..and the weight distribution is iffy at best...but still neat and the power in eye opening for sure.....if u get a chance ride one....

I ride mountain bikes more than I ride dirt bikes, so noise is a complete non-issue for me. In fact, I welcome the quiet. I'm more optimistic for the future and it will be nice to not worry about angering the neighbors. Now the only worry will be dust.

The weight is awkward as well...seems top heavy....mountain bikes have a great fluid motion ....these electric bike are unlike anything ive ever rode.....its crazy to ride a Mx bike without sound........

I have a lot of fun racing a 1979 yz250 at the moment. Different strokes for different folks. No need to wait.

If I had property where noise was an issue, I'd build a track and buy one of these tomorrow! But until then, I'll stick with the gas engine.

Funny how most still assume this is a toy for areas with noise issues

In time more will come to realize it is a weapon for track lap times. It's Happening.

You must be talking to me. I'm the guy that thinks the idea of replacing cumbustion engines with electric is stupid for any motorsport. I'm not going to explain why because it should be really obvious.

In 5 years I will be having more fun than you could imagine on my noisy gas burning, flame throwing, $3,000 piston slapper. I will be the guy with the old dirt bike in the back of a 64 chevy pick up making all the noise just like I have for the last 45 years.

If you want to pay 10k for a bike that goes whiiiiizzzzz and has no personality, no soul, and
can't bark like a big dog. Have at it but it's gonna be some time before you see the last gas burner.

Even though I'm mostly having fun with this post and I have no interest in electric motors in motorsport. I work with electric motors almost daily in the commercial HVAC industry and motor technology is advancing at an amazing rate. And electric transportation will make a lot of sense assuming some day the majority of the power source is other than coal.

Other things to think about if you are whishing for an electric motocross world.

Every week there is a thread about growing the sport because it's dying out. 10k bikes won't help. And I certainly won't buy tickets to watch Dungey ride a silent chain slapping KTM and I don't think many others will. People go to motorsport events for the excitement and it won't be very exciting without noise.

Alta and these others seem to be doing good work and as a small business owner who wants to see US businesses prosper I wish them success. But I don't think the Japanese or Austrians are going to be caught sleeping if and when the E-bike market is ready.

Also there may be some opportunities for E-bike tracks to operate where noise might otherwise be an issue. At the same time I predict that because it will be to difficult to differenciate between electric assist MTBs, Electric Downhill MTBs, full electric MX bikes and eveything in between. The result will be people demanding all two wheel bikes restricted from all the trails we currently ride MTBs on. Because we know people are going think it's OK to gear up and go ride the local trails.

Also, I have watched environmentalists and people that just don't like dirt bikes for 45 yrs. And if you think getting rid of the noise is suddenly going to change everything and open up tracks and riding areas, don't be surprised when it doesn't happen.

Anyway, all I'm saying is I like both my wife and my dirt bike to make lots and lots of noise when I ride them.

I think the the silence will suck when watching racing. Imagine being in a dome without the roar.
