Assen Track.....thoughts?

Watched the MXGP, was wondering if this is what we'll see in Charlotte next week (with a lot less sand)? Racing was good, track was tough but not an SX style layout........I was surprised.

It's a little on the short side but I think it's great. Really cool feel to it as well with the grandstands and stuff

Thought its as good as it could be considering there is no elevation change/terrain. First two race looked more like Weston Beach Race than a GP

The last two GP tracks, Switzerland and Assen, have delivered the best racing of all the season.
Both tracks have been widely criticized around here before the races even happened, so I think that Charlotte will deliver just great motocross.

That's what I'm hoping for--great racing. There were late race battles and the top 3 450s were all over each other on the final lap--I'm a fan of THAT. I prefer the natural terrain of a Saddleback or Carlsbad, but I really like watching the whole moto because it's not a run-away.

i dont care much about tracks , as long as racing is like it was in Assen and Switzerland ...
Hope in Charlotte it will be the same

I'll tell you what, that track took some serious fitness to hammer down for the entire moto. Impressive to me considering the location. One lap around the track for me and I would probably consider quitting the sport!

Sand tracks doesnt need much elevation. Can't think of one that I has ridden that isn't basically flat

For me thats a great modern MX track.
Good layout, great racing.
Tv veiwing was good
Spectator veiwing looks good
Ammenities fantastic for all the family.
No SX obsticles
Family day out. ( probably expensive)
I know its not Namur or Hawkstone,

This is the way of the future, just start paying prize money for all rider's out of the points. 20-40.

The Vets race was held up for the rain, if that had been anywhere else, it would have been cancelled.

I hate MX in non MX venues, but the racing at the last 2 has been off the scale, AMA on the other hand has been a snooze fest.

How about we lose the SX stuff at our couple outdoor tracks and just watch these guys battle over natural terrain?! Glen Helen without the big hucks could be awesome!

Assen is best case scenario for artificial MX IMO. I'd love to ride that track.

DVR'd it this weekend and finally got around to watching it. All I can say is that if motocross has a place like Hell, it's gotta be Assen. The 2nd GP moto was for the ages.

Wonder how much sand that took to make? Thought it would look fun to ride before getting all rutted/whooped out

Looked like luongo puked sponsor boards all over the track. I know they have alot of signage at all the rounds but it was so narrow, like the worst parts of an F-1 roadcourse. Good racing and terrain. Hardpack and clay doesnt ride that way if you have a natural flat course.

Well, with the huge fees Luongo takes, and what could only be Massive costs in building these 'pop up' tracks, they, like all events, are subject to the vicissitudes of the weather / spectator attendance and earnings.

They had a pretty good crowd there - if you've been to Assen you might know of the capacity of that main straight stand set up - and, there were a lot of people in the various suites there are there, but, from the Horses Mouth, on MX Large:

" Unfortunately, due to the massive rain storm on Sunday morning the crowd wasn’t bigger than 2015 and while it was still a big crowd, it might not have been enough to see this event return in 2017. Let’s hope I am wrong "

Facility and infrastructure is great. It's very professional so it opens up a lot of doors for new fans.

As for the track itself, not a big fan of that. There are many better tracks in The Netherlands that would offer great racing.

True they are generally in pits/low lying areas. We have a couple over here, a track called Lyng, sandy with hills is mega

I appreciate for the modern mx fan and trying to appeal to a wider audience these type venues are the future, I just love seeing bikes tapped through the gears up and down hills.
