In this day and age of neck braces and companies trying to accommodate them with their protectors, I was a little surprised to read on the RXR website, in the "Bullet" protectors description, that they don't recommend the use of neck braces with their protectors.
So here we have potentially some of the best chest/back protectors, but neck braces are not recommend..
There are a lot of us that will never ever wear a neck brace but always ride with upper body protection.

A CP with front and back protection I don't have to even think if it's a good idea or not. Neck braces require too much thought and I am too easily distracted.

I'm similar, in that I've never really used a neck brace. Damn, I was trying to embrace modern protection, and then realised the use of one is not recommended with the RXR, which is on my short list.

If you want the best all around protection then you get the leatt 5.5 neckbrace and fox raptor ce chest protector. The leatt is a proven neck brace and the raptor has full torso coverage with extra back protection and looks good

I don't want to start a debate here, but I'm not sure anything regarding neck braces are "proven". Just sayin' Wink

Well when has a neck brace ever caused an injury rather than helping...obviously if you have a long neck there is not much it can do but every bit of protection helps

Just bought one of these:

To augment/replace one of these, (but without the shoulder and arm pads).

I haven't used the under jersey one yet. Hopefully it isn't too uncomfortable.

Plenty of broken collarbones and sternums, even broken vertebrates from the back of the brace. When the Leatt braces were first brought to the US, my neighbor was the one who was pushing them here in the US. He gave my son a few, along with many other amateurs who were doing well at the nationals. Josh Grant was one of the first Pros who started wearing one and it soon became popular for many of them to wear. They started braking collarbones, which would've never happened without the brace. Leaving them unable to ride for 4-6 weeks. When Blake Baggett was on 85's, his mom Leann was helping Jeff with dispursment of them at the amateur nationals. Everybody was buying one, unless they were lucky enough to get one for free.

Take a look around at the riders racing SX / MX and tell me how man you see wearing them now a days. There's a reason, trust me...

Personally, I've tried every Leatt model, then the A-Stars braces and when Atlas came out with their braces, I got one to try out. The Atlas was the most comfortable brace, by far, but I still couldn't get use to it. I have pretty broad shoulders and m neck isn't long, but any means, so I decided not to wear one at all. While wearing one of the early Leatt braces, I wS out in the hills trail riding and was coming down a pretty steep hill that had a "V" at the bottom and straight up the steep ass climb following. When I was getting close to the bottom, I was trying to look up to find the best line for the steep climb, but the brace wouldn't allow me to look up enough to see shit !! It was hitting my helmet and made it impossible to see up the hill. Consiquently I had to ride the valley down to a different trail, since there was no way to get up the hill without a run at it. I left that brace in that valley that day for the next guy that might be able to use it. Wink

So much for the debate...... Tongue I know there's a million different theories on neck braces in general, but if I was going to wear one, it would be a Atlas brace, without a doubt. "Better a broken collarbone than a broken neck" is the most common arguement and I fully agree. Like I said, I'd wear one, if it worked for me, but it doesn't. The other common remark is " I would've broke my neck if I didn't have it on" Again, this is an opinion, there's ZERO proof of that. There's been motorcycle racing/ riding for 40+ years and lots of crashes without a brace. I can fully understand wearing one, but my original point was that it's anything but PROVEN.

I wear a Fox Proframe right now but I'm thinking about buying that TLD protector. Does it really protect or is it only roost? Because I always ride sand so roost is no problem for me.
Those protectors look like they could be a real struggle to get on and off? They seem to have a compression type fit, but without a zip.

I told you the pump wasn't that kind of a pump.

IMHO HRP offers the best protection to ventilation. You can't beat the shoulder protection full hard shell and rib protection. Old school but they're functional.

Ahh, the dreaded "r". A dead giveaway they've strayed from motocross.

I wish they still had the blue chrome with a clear body. I'm currently running a TLD, but it's getting worked. I never felt safer then in my old HRP.

This is exactly the one I got, Notice in the back there is no protection to acomodate the neck brace. Even in the front the protection doesnt start until half your chest too....Langhammx, since from what you wrote I understand you also ride without neck brace, don't you feel you leave most of the column unprotected riding with it?

I went ahead and ordered the RXR Bullet chest/back protector.
I almost went for the Leatt 5.5, but thought I'd try the RXR out first. I've tried the 5.5 on and it's pretty bulky and heavy, coming in at about 2kg. The RXR is half the weight. We'll see..
I also ordered a set of Pod K4's out of curiosity.

Not exactly a "Moto" item, bust has anyone tried the Race Face Flank Core for a light under jersey protector? I'm thinking about getting one for BMX since I have a bad shoulder already and it looks light and vented enough I won't get baked wearing it

Lot of people have said CPs are too hot but I've raced in the first model of RXR well over 100 degrees at Glen Helen. I survived by soaking my jersey completely before the moto.

Best of luck with your new RXR and I hope you never have to test it out.

Icon stryker vest. Amazing back and chest protection, and it isn't uncomfortable to ride in with this Texas heat.

Leatt 5.5 HD Pro for me.

Flank protection and it fits super good. Has quite a bit of adjustability as well.

It would be great if you could post your thoughts on it once you've tried it out. I'd be interested in protection vs the Leatt HD 5.5 and also ability to wear with a neck brace. It looks like they've improved a few things on the older model I have.

Nobody here tuff enuff to wear what i did it seems.

Bull riding vest made for offroad by "riding armor" ,they came on here and i asked to try and they sent me one, love it.

It may be hotter than a piece of plastic but see how warm your intestines are when they run down your leg into your boot.

I used to wear my gear, all of it,and train on my mountain bike riding my track in the heat of the day so what you get use to is what you can tolerate.
