I agree with you. It's almost like us Finns when it comes to ski jumping. Finland was into it for decades since we were actually good at it, every one watched it. But now we suck at it and no one cares.

But USA needs to correct their expectations for MXdN. They should go into every race and aim at the title but not expect it. The days of USA winning it even before the gate drops are gone, and that is a good thing. Way more uncertain and exciting!
I was actually about to use Finnish ski jumpers as an example, but since I thought nobody here would have any idea about what ski jumping...

Haha, i thought it was the perfect example. Although the big difference is that pretty much the majority of the finnish population was into it. There will never be that kind of hype of MX or SX in USA ever.
Who will be the USA's version of Eddie the Eagle at Maggiora?

I hate to say it but I feel like this is an American thing right now. After the usual threads screaming USA! USA! USA! after team USA kicked everyones ass over at mxdn in years past, here we are after a couple of years of USA not winning the event and we are having multiple multipage threads about all the different reasons why team USA hasn't won, about riders saying no to the event and people questioning the prestige of the biggest event of the year in our sport. After all the finger pointing and other crap the US riders have had to deal with from fans and media every year after the event since this "losing streak" started, I don't blame them for losing interest of going. I do get the point and realize that the riders work harder and harder every year, but I doubt that it would be an excuse if USA was still dominating the event. My point is that when team USA gets back to the top step of the podium, the event probably gets a lot of its glory back in the eyes of American fans and riders, and threads like this or the ones about American riders not going will again be replaced with the USA! USA! USA! chants.
I hate to say it (since I'm American) but you speak the truth.

And there is a week break again between the GH USGP and the MXoN. That was crazy last year.

Speaking of crazy I find it highly entertaining the sympathy these young atheletes (a few of them millionaires) garner from Vital MX crowd.

I know as well as anyone the sacrifices these modern day gladiators make by the dedication required, the travel schedule and ever present danger factor. That having been said give me a freaking break about having to race another race or two! This is their job and how many of us have had jobs that absolutely suck, doing things we didn't want to do, working for people we didn't want to work for, people we thought and know are complete idiots. Most of us also didnt't risk paralysis and death like our racers do but the compensation at the level for the riders who are MXoN eligible is pretty good.

Racing SX/MX professionally is far from easy but what I'm saying it is pretty darn good work if you can get. BTW don't even get me started on the doing it for country deal.. So sick of most everything always being about money and what's in it for me.

More than a few people inside and outside our sport could benefit from the concept of paying it forward IMHO. Excellent movie Pay It Forward too.
Agree. Interestingly enough, a lot of the truly valuable things in life can't be purchased with money.

As I think about it more, there are many here going on and on about how the riders are not paid enough, which individual is getting rich, etc. off the MXDN. To date, I haven't heard or read anything from a specific rider or team to the effect of "I am not going because the event doesn't pay me enough". I am (hoping/choose to believe) that those advocating this as being the reason some specific riders do not attend are simply assuming that their own world view accurately reflects the opinion of the Rider(s).

Pay it Forward is a great movie. I think I'll go watch it again.

It's not about the money. Every rider wants to get paid as much as possible for every race from anyone willing to pay. But I don't think any rider passes on MXDN because it doesn't pay enough.

The C class from Lorettas could probably win it Smile
When was there less racing ? I keep reading this lie over and over here. Todays riders compete in less races per year than previous generations.. Stop repeating this BS.
