Maybe movies are as dangerous as guns.
And how many guns are in America and how many gun crimes are there? Most folks can own guns responsibly without feeling the need to act out what others do with guns.

I see. So now if any actor takes a role in which they may personally not endorse the actions of the character they are playing, they are hypocrites? That doesn't make sense at all; whether murder is legal or not is not relevant to the point of whether Matt Damon is a hypocrite or not since Matt Damon's reasons for being anti-murder are not because it's illegal, but because it's ethically wrong. Attempting to draw out hypocrisy on Damon's part because he is anti-gun is akin to saying that he's a hypocrite because he's anti-murder but murders people in his movies.

People like you just think that if you keep repeating yourself and saying it loud enough that it's true.
The main problem is people like you want to take away rights of people like me. If you don't like guns then don't own one, don't hang out at shooting ranges or gun stores etc. But you want to tell me what I should and should not be able to do. What gives you the right to tell me what my rights are ? Here is an example, I don't smoke dope but here in Colorado it is legal so you know what I do ? nothing, I don't go in the pot shops and I don't hang out with the dope smokers I even voted to legalize it. So why are you and others like you so hell bent on telling us what you don't want us to do? I bet you don't even ride so I wonder why you even post at Vital, hell I bet you try to shut down tracks in your area because "dirt bikes" are dangerous and kill people. But you are free to think and say what ever you want as as long as you don't step on my rights.

Well at least you didn't start in with the personal attacks this time by calling me a dick. I was just pointing out the hypocrisy of people who like to see the rights of law abiding taxpayers taken away while they live in their own little utopia. You going to go crying to Guy B again?

I do appreciate the compliment on the awesome thread though.

This is dumb. I'm pro gun all the way. I have a gun on me 24/7. But him playing a character in a movie that uses guns doesn't make him a hypocrite. Using this logic, all actors who play a murderer must believe murder is okay. That just makes zero sense. It's a movie. It's Matt Damon's job to play roles in movies that generate millions upon millions of dollars. It's not his job to only play characters that hate guns. Christian Bale plays the lead role in Psycho. Using your logic, Christian Bale must be a psycho murderer. If he's not, then he's a damn hypocrite and should be ashamed.

How about an attorney who is hired by a client to represent them in a civil case. The attorney may not necessarily personally believe his client deserves a settlement but they're going to do their job to convince a judge that their client is in the right. It's their job, it's how they make a living.

Matt Damon is a PAID ACTOR. He is paid to say certain things because he has influence on people not paying attention. He is paid to push agendas through movies and TV. Hollywood is a propaganda machine. Jason Bourne is paid to promote special forces, and Matt Damon is paid to promote anti-gun lobbyists.

" him playing a character in a movie that uses guns doesn't make him a hypocrite"
You are right that does not make him a hypocrite. What makes him a hypocrite is using his name to lobby to take gun rights when he uses gun violence in his movies to make $$ .Why does he not proclaim that even though he hates guns he still uses them to make money. I like Matt Damon movies and I like action movies with guns but he is by definition a hypocrite.

Answer me this, why was Sean Penn running around New Orleans with a shot gun ? He is another actor who is very anti gun and he was not making a movie at the time so why was he patrolling New Orleans with a shot gun? did he feel unsafe ? this alone make him a flaming hypocrite also.

I on the other hand am a asshole by definition and OK with that but I am not a hypocrite.

Well done gentlemen, it's intermission time. Kanye performs the timeless classic Bohemian Rhapsody. Vintage Freddie is amused.

I fee lucky that I got to see them twice back in the early 80's. Amazing show. And poor Kanye, what a disgrace to even attempt any Freddie. He wouldn't amount to a zit on Freddie's ass.

I'm sure that Hollywood glorifying guns, glorifying violence and glorifying gun violence has no affect on our society at all.

30 second commercials during the Superbowl are so effective and changing/modifying our behavior that companies spend millions of dollars on them...but somehow watching hours and hours of glorified violence and killing people has no affect at all on our societies behavior?

I'm not saying everyone that watches violet movies will become a violent person...in fact, its the opposite, its a vast vast minority that ever will (like less than 1% of the population)...just like not everyone that watches a Doritos commercial during the Superbowl is going to run down the grocery store and buy a bag...a tiny percentage of people that see the commercial will do that...BUT...that tiny percentage of the population that it does affect, is enough to have a huge affect on our society (just like the small percentage of the population that respond to that Doritos add is enough to justify the million dollar investment in the commercial).

So for Hollywood (directors, actors, producers, etc. etc.) to glorify gun violence in their movies/shows...while simultaneously condemning it in "real life" is, in my opinion, the height of hypocrisy.

I'm starting to think that you think Matt Damon is actually Jason Bourne.

There's really no other explanation....

I'm all for people doing some kind of public service, but I draw the line at drafting into the military. Our armed forces already have plenty of shitty people who volunteered to join, if it became mandatory - especially with 'these damn kids today' - we would completely lose our war fighting capability.

Politicians wouldn't be so quick to go to war if it was going to be their sons, grandsons, brothers, and nephews dying in it.

honestly i am not so sure we really need, that many temporary military personnel. So a draft really makes little sense. That said some type of public service, should be mandatory, maybe say 1700 hours over several years part time performing some type of public service, think of it as internship, could be done over several years even while attending school, minimum wage, could buy your way out if you want or be charged penalties if non compliant. Might teach some work ethic, people might realize they are not getting something for nothing.

As a gun owner I obey all the gun laws we already have and will obey new laws that apply to me when or if they change. A question For Jimmy Sloan or others on the other side of the issue, what specific laws would you want or would you want total ban on guns and what would you think the results would be? You have every right to your opinion and even though we have a little fun here on the issues I would like to hear them and I would like to respond in a respectful way with my thoughts after hearing your ideas.
