It really would be awesome to see Tony grab this moto.

2.5 sec difference between Gajser & Cairoli now. I'd like to see the leaders!

Nagl goes down!!!!

This might give Cairoli the overall!!

*Strijbos might actually get it!

Gajser is pulling the gap back out again on Cairoli. The overall is still up in the air, currently it would be Strijbos!

Febvre crashed again.. Bad weekend indeed.

This would be so epic if Strijbos would get a GP win infront of his homecrowd! According to MXVice he hasn't won a GP since Lierop 2007.

Cairoli is now actually crawling back up to Gajser!

Little fun fact: When Strijbos won his last GP before today, Gajser was 12 years old.

Cool for Strijbos but god damn I would have loved to see Nagl take two GPs in a row...
Tony better get going or Max will overtake him for second in the standings

Strijbos winning a GP in MX1 today is extremely impressive. First overall win in 9 years. That is a very long time to fall off the top and get back on it. To be fair he did win 1 moto in each of the 2012, 2014 and 2015 seasons. Kevin made his full time debut in 2001. You don't see a lot of guys winning at the world's highest level 16 years into their career. Especially guys that were never the dominant rider in the first place. He got some luck winning with a 3-3.

He was on the pace all weekend, made reasonable starts and moved up.. Nagl won with a Holeshot, gajser did the same, cairoli gated second.. Not lucky, but deserved

Correct, and Lommel was brutal, don't respect it, it'll eat you up.

It was a great and totally deserved win. The track was the "worst" it has ever been, according to the riders.
Being capable to score two podiums on that mine land against those riders was fenomenal.
Gajser in the first moto and especially Febvre learnt a great motocross lesson today.

Only last weekend he complained that Loket is hard to make passes without a start (something said numerous times about tracks this year, yet other riders haven't all had issues making progress), then blamed changing to the 350 and a lack of time on it for his poor start. That "isn't excellent at not making excuses" in my book, that's a poor decision when you consider how many holeshots he has had on that 450 this season.

Coupled with most of the season where we have heard about pre-season, the injury just before it all kicked off, building fitness and not having the speed (at times) after most GP's. To now and more recently the last three GP's where it has been the wrist, maybe we'll hear that for a fourth time today and a second time about getting use to the 350 etc.

I hope i'm wrong and he comes out swinging and lays waste to them in the second moto though!

Here's Antonio's comments on his GP - as ever, an honest, self critical assessment of his performance (taken from MXgeoffs website for those loath to click on it).:

Antonio Cairoli : “Today I cannot say I’m satisfied with my race, not of my riding, especially in the first heat. Unfortunately I struggled all weekend to find the right feeling with the track, on which I’m not competing for the last two years, never being able to score good lap times. In race one I tried to remount after a not perfect start and I recovered several positions until the third, but then I began to make too many mistakes and I start suffering arm pumps and I went down to sixth place. It ‘was a shame because so I compromised the chances of winning the Grand Prix that were concrete; on this track I have always made good races and I know I can ride better than that. In race two, things have gone differently, I started well and I found the right rhythm, winning the podium that had been lacking for too long. Now we have to keep working hard to get all the best of the last part of the season. If I would have won I could have won the GP, but Tim (Gajser) was hanging on pretty good and so I held on for second place. The podium is okay but we are not happy. I should be a bit better on this kind of track. Now we work hard for the next GP.”

I for one am happy he'll be around until at least the end of 2018 (I think that's what he re-upped for?). We get to see one of the very greatest MXers of all time, for a few more years. Age / Injuries and blazingly fast competitors, both long standing ones and new ones, make MXGP far from a picnic.
