If memory serves me correct, he only grabs the clutch when he needs too. That might be the reason.

Maybe he is running an Auto Clutch.
If GuyB can snap a pic of James in the air with the rear brake locked up and his fingers off the clutch lever, then we'd know whether or not he's running an auto clutch.

Maybe his standard set-up from before, but I remember RC having the same "droopy" setting during his 02/03 season when he felt uncomfortable on the Honda. I Think he said he kept pulling them back to improve while in the whoops. Afterwards he laughed about that being the wrong approach. I dunno how he sorted it all out.

noticed the lever low on Stew , did anyone notice in the honda commercial the riders foot is nowhere near his footpeg or brake. its about 4 inches up , just wondering how he could ride or even corner like that.

Thought I heard he typically shifts without the clutch, like a shifter kart.

I ride my bars like Friday described. It always felt right personally.
But, I remember the day I crashed Oct 5th 07, these younger kids were bustin my balls in staging (all in good fun, Im a ball buster myself and usually instigate these situations to kill time waiting and what not) that I rode my bars and levers like a Chopper. These guys were a lot younger than me and they all do the MTF/GPF thing during winter on the east coast. A bit later I asked a fast kid I know locally about it, and he said low bars, and levers help stamina, force a more forward over the bars aggressive type stance, and prolong your arm strength in long motos.
Said almost all of the MX classes he has taken over the years always stressed it.
I'm really curious, I have yet to try it, but I can tell ya I've spent months thinking about it, and can't wait to try it. LoL

I will say that most pics I see from the pits are very similar to how I felt comfortable with my setup. Maybe it's one of those things where no ones right, and it's right if it works for you. haha

All I know is I tried to get those sunline levers and they said not available till march but guess who has them on his bike?
Me! I like them a lot.

As for James' levers, they're the Sunline V-1 MDX levers, not stock Yamaha.

I never got the attraction of having to reach upward to get two fingers on them...wouldn't that extra effort contribute to arm pump?

I have long arms and legs.My buddy has his bars low.I can't ride his bike. Feels like the bars are in my lap. I grew up racing in the 70's-80's and our bars were low and swept back.I don't know how we did it.Laughing Low bars make jumping way more difficult for me. But too high or forward isn't good either.Low and back makes standing impossible for me. Body size makes a huge difference.I'm 6ft 2.195 lbs. Remember Shay Bentley's choice of setup? He had collarbone issues and rotated everything waaaaayyy forward. Worked for him. I know RV has wrist issues and that also plays into things.I know that for sure!Unsure

I noticed the Honda commercial also.....Left hander with a close up of the right foot...foot was in middle of clutch cover, looked odd...I assumed it was IT9 again.

4 finger clutch? THAT'S a problem
I remember reading an interview of Albrecht, he mentioned that Bubba preferred a stiff clutch lever, and that he liked his levers pointed down due to his forward riding style.
