pivot bearing removal

I removed my rear shock to replace it and the rear seal popped off on accident and a bunch of needle bearings came falling out. It looks as if theres two bearings in there. What is the best way to remove the bearings? Do the need to be pressed out or is there a way to remove them without removing the swingarm? Its number 2 on this diagram. I used a combination of 2 sockets and a vise.
Basically a homemade press.
One socket close to the size of the bearing race.
One socket large enough for the bearing race to flop into.

If you don't have a vise try the same setup with a bolt and nut and washers.
Those poor man's presses are all I've ever used

I use a die grinder, and cut a seam in them. A dremel will do the same thing, if you have the right cutter. I use a carbide cutter, so it's a short war, and I always win. Lol

I do the same thing, but with a c-clamp and 2 sockets.

Then throw the new bearings in the freezer overnight before install.

Thanks for all the input guys. Got the new ones ordered, will the needles on the new bearing fall out as easy? From the pictures of new ones, they look like they stay seated when sitting horizontal. Just want to make sure i dont have them falling everywhere on the install. Out of all the forums i belong to, I always get some great knowledgeable replies from this one so thanks again.

I usually throw a little grease on the new bearings to keep the needles from falling out. Under normal circumstance they will not fall out, but i have had them fall out before during install. worst case you just put them back in with a little grease to keep them in place.

If you're struggling to press out the old ones then a little heat goes a long way...(just clean out excessive grease etc before heating.... The smoke off the grease is quite toxic ). I would jig up the piece with the 'poor mans' press then heat a little....

Reminder....These bearings have 2 sides. One is very thin and the other is thicker. Be sure you are pressing against the thicker side or you can destroy the new bearing.
