I think the ideal situation for everyone is for self-proclaimed drunken drug abusers who are constantly getting into confrontations with law enforcement and other civilians to be as heavily armed as possible. Sounds like a great combination to me.
I'd prefer the civilians be armed as apposed to the police. I don't see many private citizens shooting the homeless etc.

I have a permit...but carrying is so much dang work. The wardrobe has to be completely planned around the gun. And because I've never been in a situation where I'd even come close to needing a gun, and don't feel even remotely unsafe...It's just not worth it to me to carry.

Never mind that before I'd even let myself carry on a regular basis, I'd make myself take some more advanced training (tactical, shooting, etc.) so that I'm at least prepared in the event that I needed to use the weapon.

I got the permit because a buddy of mine was teaching a free class that would cover me for both Utah and Arizona (and if memory serves, between those two states the permit is recognized in MOST states)...and so I figured, "why not"? Now I've got it in case I need it.

LCP with a Crimson trace in my front left pocket. Fortunately I have never had to pull it. But have had to ask more than one scumbag if they wanted to die in less than 5 seconds. Don't leave home without it.

I know they got these red poles with blue lights on top here on university grounds that say "emergency" all over. Guess alpmann hopes one of them are around.

The little 32 fits my pocket,

I just like revolvers for the safty and they are old and skinned up and no name on them, least, not mine.

If you got 2,shoot the thug, put the other in his hand and a pretty bow is tied on before the cops arrive.hehe

Around here if you can make it look like a suicide ,even with 2 shots to the head, the law comes says "yep" hops in their cars and gone.

I feel sorry for you guys living in a country where you have to carry a gun to protect yourselves. I guess your freedom to live in a safe country is gone.

I've been REALLY lucky in my life of stupidity. Never had a gun pulled on me but had lots of onery people want to test me. In my youth I wasn't a very forgiving or lenient fella. I hurt quite a few people. Not band aids and stitches hurt...skull plates, glass eyes, and wheel chairs hurt. I ain't proud of it. I ain't that way anymore. An Indian fella in Ponca City, Ok took me apart at the bar one night. The doc got my ear and cheeks sewed back on but that left ear is a good half inch lower. Sunglasses always sit cockeyed.

Which part is incorrect?

After reading these posts, on top of having to carry one to protect yourself, it sounds like an absolute pain in the ass to do so.

LOL...really? You weren't trying to bait these guys into a pissing match over gun control? Come on...

As for me, I honestly don't know what these guys are talking about...I feel perfectly safe, and have felt safe everywhere I've traveled in America...Take away the 3rd world cities (Chicago, Detroit, DC, etc.) and the rest of America is just as safe as any other 1st world country, and safer than many that have far stricter gun control laws.

I can carry a gun any time I want (I've got the permit), and I NEVER carry (maybe you misread my post). It's a pain-like you said-and I just don't ever feel threatened. So I don't see a need?

I have no dog in the gun control fight. Either way it doesn't affect me here.

I have seen all the media coverage of the mass shootings but what we don't hear about in my country is the daily shootings that happen in the States. It wasn't untill I read some of the posts in the non Moto section that I now understand how bad it really is. I can understand some citys/areas are worst than others.

I feel safe everywhere I go. I don't carry because I'm scared of going out of my house. I just do it to defend myself from a wacko if need be. It's like the neck brace debate. Somethings better than nothing right??Woohoo

If you have the proper training, permit. Why not. Better safe than sorry. It is a huge responsibilty to carry one. Just know what or what not could happen. Train, practice situations, gun retention. Etc.

I only carry my pistol when I go camping and such. But I also have a small canister of pepper spray from the army surplus store on my keychain that goes with me everywhere - just in case I run into any maniacs on the street.

Don't let the media and shit you see on the Internet give you the wrong idea about America. I've been shot at once in my life, and I'm not even sure they were aiming for me or just trying to scare me off. Well and my step brother almost shot me on accident. I've had several guns pulled on me. But ultimately I'm a little to blame, I put myself in those situations except for one. My experience with guns is the exception, most people don't know what it's like to be looking down a barrel. My pistol is just as much a toy as it is for protection, I enjoy making holes in paper. Of course with as expensive as it is, I "need" it for protection to justify the cost. I do buy/sell a lot on craigslist, and I frequently road trip sleeping in parking lots and stealing showers.
My ex gf was pretty anti-gun until I took her camping. Pissing in the woods in the middle of night can be unnerving for some people, so me watching her with the gun helped her feel better.

And thanks for the advice yall. I reckon I'll buy a better (slimer) holster when I can justify buying a better gun. Maybe then I'll be able to get over the uncomfortable feeling. For now it'll stay in my car unless I feel the need to carry it.

The fact that some of you actually feel like you need a gun to feel safe must tell you guys something is wrong? I sure as hell wouldn't feel safe in my city if I knew a bunch of people were carrying

You're wasting your time trying to convince anybody here. American culture has become (partly) about the worship of weapons and since they are fine with it why should we care.
God forbid that it should ever be like that in Europe though.

Look up statics here, most Americans don't own a gun and the percentage has been declining for a long time now.
It's not a worship (ok for most). It's just a love of something we've grown up with. A love of the mechanical aspect, just like a car. Be it old and classic, or new and high tech.
Personally I think I'd be ok with a ban on guns, as long as I can keep the BB and paintball guns. But it's not something I really have to think about, because it's just not gonna happen. Not soon anyways.

You guys are sure grateful for all these gun-toting, shit-talkin' Americans once some dictator, czar or wackjob commie leader tries to invade your tiny world and you anti-gun guys run into your hut and hide under the kitchen table.

If you don't feel safe knowing a bunch of responsible gun owners are carrying, then you have an irrational fear.

I don't wear a seat belt because I'm afraid of driving and I don't have an emergency pump at my house because I'm afraid of water. I do it to be prepared so I'm not the idiot that has to say, "Well I never thought that would happen."

99% of the "daily shootings" in America happen in the very worst neighborhoods of a few of the largest cities. Outside of those neighborhoods its not "bad" at all...its just as safe as the city/town you live in.

Do you not trust the people that live in your city? Why do you have a trust problem with people?

Never safe? I guess if you want to talk in absolutes (which is disingenuous) you might be right...but from a statics perspective, even including the most dangerous neighborhoods of the most dangerous cities in the country, there is a long long list of things that you are more likely to be killed by than a gun.

In all those cities you mentioned (with the deadliest mass shootings) you are more likely to be killed in a car accident (among other things) than by a gun.

I'm not saying you shouldn't carry a gun...more power to you, carry as many guns as you like. But unless you live in the crappiest neighborhoods in Detroit/Chicago/DC/LA/New Orleans/etc. etc. carrying for protection isn't realistically and statistically necessary.

Post a reply to: why i carry a pistol
