Recently got to try the new TLD SE4 helmet at Pala and compare it to my current lid, the SE3.
1st thing I noticed? It is Light! It felt as light as a "DOT" Airoh (the Airoh we get in the U.S.). I'm guessing it's a little heavier than the Airoh...BUT, it's got a reason...more on that later (See "Tech"!). The profile of the helmet seems smaller, too. That may be an optical illusion due to the all new design; but, it certainly looks a little smaller to me.
This thing flows an amazing amount of air...quite a bit more than my SE3. The SE3 was no slouch in comfort and air-flow; but, The SE4 seems to surpass it in both cases & it should. It's all new with a lot of new tech.
About "Tech":
1. The SE4 has MIPS, aka "Multi-directional Impact Protection System", & my favorite thing about this is that I DON'T KNOW IT'S THERE!
2. The SE4 is light thanks to being made out of Carbon-Fiber. I'm a Composite-Materials geek. I love the Carbon-Fiber aspect.
3. Very Functional Ventilation: this is the Ultimate Helmet for a Hot Day: I will be rocking this thing in Baja!
4. The Engineering & Design that went in to the "Important for Moto" features like the Face-Opening that fits a Dragon NFX Full-Frame goggle...no sweat! The work that went in to the No-Drag Venting in the Visor...Super-Nice when you're pinned in 5th (6th for some of you 250 and off-road riders). Do you know what I mean by "No Drag"? There are times when I've been racing in Baja when you are in "Full-Tuck" & you don't even consider turning your head or "looking around" for ANY REASON...'cause the air-flow at 80-90MPH will rip your head off. Not with this helmet!
5. "Hearing". I can literally hear better in this helmet than I've ever been able to do in any other helmet. Ever.
Any-Hooo...
It's light.
It's Extemely Comfy for my "Medium" head.
It's got the latest Safety Tech.
It's Carbon-Fiber.
It doesn't cost anymore than comparable helmets.
It's a Troy Lee Designs helmet (Translation: it's got Amazing Paint)
So, now you know what I'll be wearing until the SE5 comes out.

They're that light and that much better.

DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
The padding/pads are different; but, once it's on your head for 10-15 minutes....
It settles in and fits very "TLD".
Note: I am "Mr. Medium" and the SE3 & SE4 for me nicely.
Shhhhh.
Pit Row
I currently wear a 10 year old Arai. I'd love to get a new one, but damn I can get two Fly F2s for the price of one of the new Arais. Too bad Fly doesn't seem to sell the MIPS version in Europe.
Yesterday, I rode with my SE3 @ Glen Helen. So, I still had a fresh impression of how it felt.
It's like this: I'm gonna miss the Epic custom-paint of my SE3 helmets. Why? 'Cause, I ain't wearing them anymore...
This new helmet is jus' too damn light and flows the perfect amount of air. Also, I can wear my Dragon HUGE NFX googles with out ANY INTERFERENCE from the edges of the helmet.
Soooooo STOKED!
