Last fall I had to sell my YZ250F to help fund my tuition. Tax refund was good to me and I scored a neglected 2013 YZ125 for $2000. The bike had more missing bolts than I could count and had oil puked all over the place. No fluid in the front brake, back wheel wasn't even tightened down, and every time I mentioned something wrong with it the father would interject and say, "Yeah but that's normal with these things." Here it is when I picked it up.

..gave it a budget makeover and after riding it today - I don't know why I didn't buy one sooner. A lot more comfortable cornering and in the air at the track (I'm a squid) and a blast in the woods. Glad to be riding again. Cheers.

Good job on the budget make-over, hard to believe that's the same bike, you should put it in the Kick Ars Two Stroke section, definitely belongs there. How do like it over the 250F ?

That was still a hell of a deal! And the bike looks great. But if you think a few missing bolts is bad you should have seen the kx250f I looked at last year. The bike was blowing smoke out the motor like a mofo and the guy tried to convince me that's normal on a 4 stroke.

I really enjoy not having to work with the engine braking of a four stroke. Corner entry is a lot easier for me. The bike overall feels a lot more nimble.

I looked at the first pic before I read anything and thought to myself, the chain is loose, numbers are tilted the wrong way and the hand grenade sticker makes me think freestyle/MMA/white trash.......then I read on, and looked farther.....now you're talkin moto, very nice!

Dude you ruined a perfectly good FMX/chic magnet/quad jumping/outrunnin the cops/Denny Hamlin tribute sweet ride just to turn it into a Mx bike?

What were you thinking?

Nice work! The final product looks awesome. What all was involved in the budget make over? Did you replace the airbox to do the plastics update?

Haha, I was almost embarrassed having it in the back of my truck when bringing it home.

Parts list:
Tusk Impact Wheelset (lucky score from a friend who sold his YZ125, got them brand new for $250 from him)
MX32s F/R
Racetech plastics kit
FMF Turbine 2.1 - I ride track and trail about 50/50 and needed a spark arrestor
D'cor Star Racing graphics and seat cover (got the graphics and seat cover for $89 - thanks eBay)
Brake pads/grips/bolts kit

The bike had an hour meter on it - read 11.2 when I picked it up. Did a compression check and it's good.

While the suspension is pretty good, I think they may have been serviced for someone who weighs a bit less than me. Played with the clickers some but it felt pretty soft. Future plans are some suspension work, numbers, and probably replace the top end while the suspension is being worked on. Other than that I'd like to to get some ARC levers, Lightspeed glide plate/disc guard, and a BUD racing carbon ignition cover. Having a great time on it so far!
