There was an early 70s mx book where Ake Johnson talked about it. Even talked about how they would drag the front brake on jumps to keep the bike low.

The real question is whether it truly adds height and distance. This topic has not been fully explored...

if you're riding a bike on an opposite direction moving conveyor belt, can you pop-a-wheelie?

Your correction indicates that you're part of the group Camp is describing. Regarding the seat bounce, I think braking bumps had a hand in that invention. Acceleration bumps also played a part.

I went to a Gary Bailey school in 79 and he had us seat bouncing.. but he called it Pre-jumping.

I thought pre-jumping was using an earlier bump to get over the main bump?

Yeah but you'd seat bounce to load the suspension to bounce over the bigger bump... staying lower and getting back to the ground quicker.
The key was a prior bump not just loading. Sometimes words shift definition. Take the term "Superset" in body building. It originally mean non stop sets of antagonistic muscles. Today it is often used to describe non stop sets of the same muscle which used to be called a giant set.

Someone should start a thread on it, so we can discuss. For instance, does seat bouncing even work?
