Well, we're now 20 years into this whole 4-stroke thing and they've pretty much left 2-strokes in the dust. Now E-bikes are coming, and resist and complain all you want, but sometime in the future, be it 10 years or 30 years from now, every serious motocross racer will have an electric motorcycle in the garage. I have no doubt about this. Sure, the ol' combustion engine will still be around, but performance-wise it will eclipsed by the electric motors of 2026 or 2046.
Just like any other industry, performance shops, retailers and the MX industry at large will either adapt or be left behind. At the moment e-bikes are in their infancy, and just like when motocross itself was in its early years, manfacturers and tinkerers of all kinds are trying to find the right combination while thinking outside the box of what is currently available and inventing new concepts along the way. Much as the evolution of motorsports has gone, we will begin to see more of a trickle down from Formula 1 (and Formula E) and MotoGP (or something like Moto E) as the electronics become light enough, powerful enough and tough enough for the rigors of motocross racing. This is an exciting time in the world of electronic vehicles are we are getting a front seat to the show.
Can E-bikes currently hang with 4-stroke motocross machinery? No, but they soon will and I, for one, am looking forward to the ride.

Seen the electric races at the iOM, started off with a few bikes lapping a average of about 95mph now the record stand at average of 119mph, over 37 miles. This is since mugen have put a bike together albeit worth about a million they have cradle it. Almost lapping as quick as the 600s. , the technology is there, surely that could be converted over to Mx. With increased demand, i really hope we see these more often.
If it means more places to ride, I'm in favour, let's face it the only issue with our sport it noise!

I've no problem with an Electric future - hell as long as I can still ride, I'll be happy. ICE engined vehicles will be around for a long time to come.
The key, as everyone says, is Battery Tech - it's as simple as that. Range, Weight, Cost.
The Mugen is around 260KG. McG apparently loves it, after his first regarding it as a bit of a joke. Says (and other say it) it makes Moto GP tech look passe'. The huge weight, does make for an incredibly favourable Sprung to Unsprung weight ratio, that he says makes it great on the IOM course.
I'm hoping he can loose the 10kg (I think that's the 'deal') that's the verbal agreement with HRC/ Mugen in getting to keep one of the Mugens. He wants one. IF it ever happens, I'd say it would have some serious, signed paperwork to go along with it as to non disclosure / non tampering, and still remaining Honda's - it's called a Mugen, but hell, it's Honda - ultimate property.
Not knocking his wins on the E Bike, McG is incredible, but they are one lap races. It will get really, Really interesting when they extend them to multiple laps.
I've got to ride Quantyas and KTM E bikes a few times on my trips to Europe - the Quantyas were still towards the glorified MTB bike side at the time I rode those, and, off course, the KTM is, essentially, the Freeride Chassis. There are quite a few E Bike parks over there with them available to ride. They have startling performance for what they are, and, I think the Freeride E bike may just trump the 250 and 350 in performance up to a point, where gearing then comes into play. The KTM E Bikes battery can be replaced in a few minutes, but, it would be costly to have one lying around as a spare.........I'd like to ride a KTM E motored EXC / SX chassis'd bike. I've ridden Brammos in the states - now owned by Victory. It will be interesting to see how it goes at Pikes Peak this year - I think Don Canet has got a third outright in the MC class previously on a Ducati Multistrada, so he's not a 'squid'. I think Pikes Peak has already been won (outright in the Motorcycle classes?) by an E Bike?
However, Noise is Not the Only issue with our sport - the arseholes we are up against, will always find something to try to stop us with.

Last I read ( I admit I haven't followed up on his illness) he had bought either a 1198 "with everything" , or a Panigale (along the same lines), and was just riding at every opportunity - I think in an article he said something that everything that could be done for his condition, had been done, and he was going to live what was perhaps left of his life, to the full.
It would be so good if he is indeed, healthy.
The MotoCzyszx's E1pc's were just incredible, with their earlier winnings and places at the IOM, and, in other E bike races. He really brought E Racers on from 'great big boxes of batteries, crammed into a GSXR chassis' bikes. Gorgeous things, though, I think it was the '12 bike, that quite freaked me out with just the seat, without a rear tail piece to wedge the rider in place - I had visions of Michael Rutter (1st) and Mark Miller (3rd) slipping of the back or the seat, and getting wedged between it and the rear wheel / hugger / swingarm.
Yikes - coverage from the DH WC rd2 from Cairns has just started - I'm off. I was supposed to be there, but the news of my long estranged fathers death this week has kept me home.
