I said I would ask Ron Lechein about yesteryears factory bikes vs todays factory 450s.
Remember that thread? Here's his reply:

"Like i said before there just 2 totally differnt power bands...You would have to ride the old 2 strokes alot harder to be able to be competitive with the new bike's...As far a being competitive with todays Factory 450's, I dont think so...They have soo much HP and are easier to ride...Hard to say"

Ronnie

Kinda what I figured....

Here's a question for you. How long do you think it was before the technology that was on that 85 HRC 250 made it to the production line? Two years, Four maybe Six? Longer?

I'd say more like 10-15 years. I would be curious to know. I know production suspension seemed to make a big leap forward around 2002-2004.

Tiki that is a great question that I have pondered for a long time.....there has at least one member that can chime in and shed some light on this.....Maybe 2 different sides though, the technology pre-production rule and post production rule.

Anyone?

I'd say some of it-maybe a lot of it-...never, made it to production. Like I said before...I always thought the factory Hondas were MAGICAL!Shocked

I think for the engine it was when they had the eletronicly controlled power valve , with the suspension and brakes-not yet.

When did Honda start running the chain on the left for the works bikes? My oem 79 was right side but 82 was left if I remember right.

You are one lucky man if you have that beautiful machine sitting in your garage......

That is a work of art, nothing will ever top the 82-85 Honda factory bikes. They were in a class of their own during that era.

Bailey's '83 works 250 had the left-side drive...stocker was on the right until '84 (except for the 125 which had it in '83).

Not mine I'm sorry to say.

Here's the other side of the 82 RC250.

2002? Didn't the HRC Honda 250 have an electronic power valve?

Not realy tecnology but the seat on the 85 HRC250 looks a lot like the 09-10 CRF450 24 years later.

I still say that a more appropiate comparison to the 450 4 stroke bikes of today would be the factory 500 two strokes like these.

WOW, the kawis look good too but look how much further up on the tank the honda riders, especially the 1985s, could sit, the kawi riders were stuck in the middle and towards the back of the bike in comparison.
