I have never been to an Am race at Southwick without John Dowd racing there, same with Marshall.

But who cares if they can kill their backyard track. The point that Jay is fishing with is a viable one. Someone needs to add up the dollar amounts on the racers salaries that Dowd beat, at 44, and give us a fun fact to store in the warehouse of useless information.

It's racing and anything can happen, but, I doubt Chaplin Kawi, and Johndowdracing.com (i think) invested anywhere near what 70% of the teams there did. Only to have the 3rd overall finish of the day be the highlight. (no disrespect to MG, that was great to see)

It's not just moto, it's everywhere. Hard work is not the norm. Many feel they are owed something simply for existing.

Dowd is who I root for everytime he lines up no matter where but let's not rip the guy's he beat's.

Dr. Mark nailed it.

Southwick is one in its own a "specialty" track if you will and he is truly a specialist at this race.

All anyone needs to know about Dowd and Southwick you know by looking at last year's results. Dowd showed up at Unadilla and went 19-33 for 27th overall.

Then, only a month later (and three rounds later), he went 9-5 for sixth overall at Southwick.

That's the story. Very simple.

Yes, he may be considered a "southwick specialist" now that he is in his 40's but lets not forget the guy ran up front and won at different tracks during his career. John Dowd is a very talented motocross rider, regardless of his age. He won both a Lites SX title and a 250 SX race. He also was runner up several times in the Outdoor Nationals.

To discredit his accomplishment this weekend is very disrespectfull of his talent. To get beat by him is nothing to be embarrassed by.
I'm talking about current times, not 10 years ago. I'm not discrediting his accomplishment. Race results don't lie. But it's a fact that he can only do that at Southwick today.

It's still completely astonishing. It's just a skewed bar by which to judge the other riders he beats at Southwick.

You're comparing Unadilla (hard-pack, rocky track) where Swanepoel rode for Monster Energy Kawasaki to a sand track? On top of that, he ran as high as third in the first moto before a fall this weekend.

Swanepoel is a good rider, but you're comparing apples to oranges.

Look at Swanepoel's results at tracks more similar to Unadilla, like Portugal, Spain or Czech Republic, and his results are pretty consistent with Unadilla, where he was arguably on superior equipment.

Think 30+ years ago, for the bikes there was none of the tech today and 440 or 465s with powerbands as wide as spaghetti; this was rough and got even rougher. This is a local race; note how rough; I forgot for those, put yer glasses on.

Oh...no tractors either smoothing out jack like yesterday and other races. Think you just can't compare eras....like the '83 Caddie to the '09.. geepers. And 45 mins on those bikes that were NOT '09 Caddie smooth life todays bikes....that when it was 80%+ rider hangin' on those things; todays bike does way more work for ya....

Sorry off subject. Dowd is a freak of nature and one if not the best ambassadors of MX with pal Doug Henry and others........Nothing po's me than to disrespect the past because there would be no future if there weren't no past.

sounds good.

i always wonder why they didn't just leave the suspensions alone on the modern bikes and save the cash?
