Does anyone have any good photo's of the original Flying Hawaian John DeSoto in action from back in the day? Not bothered if they are b/w or colour. Please post here or e-mail robakinsey@hotmail.com
Future commission coming up and need some good reference.
Thanks ,
Rob

Actually a few on Yahoo Images. Not sure 'bout the rest of the older guys on here, but for me the Suzuki TM ad has probably the most memorable photo of Mr. Desoto.

Here's a non-action shot most will also remember

I didn't even like riding close to a TM400. That rear end would start pogoing and you'd better give'em room or they'd gather you up too.

I used to have an old Super-8 of a bunch of guys going over a jump at an Inter-Am. Destoto comes along and jumps clear out of the frame.

Pic of DeSoto @ Saddleback,Banzai Hill aboard a Privateer Ossa Phantom 250cc
Pretty much end of racing as a Pro.
A very cool guy and very fast.

Sorry about quality,

I have always liked Desoto when I was a kid because he was known to be a bit of abulldog .He also gets my respect as an adult for his achievements after racing.
I can remember staring at the Suzuki ad in english class when I was supposed to be reading Silas Marner.I had a 72 tm250 [ I paid for ]when I was 15. Soon I will be telling my grandson "thats what I raced when I was a kid".It seems like yesterday the tm was brand new,now I'll be telling stories from a grandpas perspective.
I think thats kinda cool.....

desoto was the man. I remember seeing him in the pits at ascot. he was in his org. pinapple leathers. that dude's thighs were the size of tree trunks. one nite at lions he was on a brand new cz. leading on the last lap his back wheel started to grenade. it stopped about 20 ft. b-4 the finish. he got off and picked up the bike throwing it across the finish line for the win. ffnnn unbelieveable.
