I'm saying a novice is A NOVICE (if he's not a picker). They're novices for a reason. They run about 30 secs a lap slower than pros (at best). The pro, of any era, is not going to suddenly lose 30 seconds a lap. That's what I'm saying.

This is true ONLY if they were riding with a modern day rider who they could watch. How do I know??? Because I watch the old SX races on the Greatest SX races DVDs and Ward, Hannah and the rest could barely do a 15-20 ft double with thier works bikes with 40 HP... They look like novice riders on those old basic obstacles, they really didn't even try to hit anything that would be a double (they weren't intentional doubles back then) they rolled them whereas a modern rider on that old works bike would double that obstacle no prob. Its just a matter of technique being better and learned earlier today. Since the pool of riders is deeper we are getting the cream of the crop today too.
I take Ron Turner any day out at Ascot up against any novice alive and most ints.
No intermediate in the world is going to beat Glover or Barnett at Saddleback in 1980.

Novice class. But then if the track has an age class like 16-24(Or whatever the ages are) they could ride that class too.
