A local guy is selling his 87 CR250, one of my favorite bikes I owned. Said he put in a new top end, new FMF pipe, wheel and linkage bearings and he actually raced it in some begginer classes.

Now adding another toy to my collection is the LAST thing I need to do as I already can't keep up..... But dang I use to luv those bikes. He said $800 firm. Don't know wtf I would do with the thing either.....

Was a great bike, no doubt. My buddy had one new, I used to love riding it. Find a spot for it!

In my opinion, it was a toss up between the 86 and 87. The 86 motor had alot of torque and was real easy to ride but the 87 would rev to the moon. Both of them were great bikes though.

hahahha thanks for the advise Lee, you know I don't get into all the 2-smoke vs thumper wars. My honest belief is if it has two wheels you can have fun on it. But yea I don't want to get in over my head buying stuff for it. Summer is coming up and I still need to get those USED seadoo's I bought last yr working right. That turned out to be quite a fiasco-- long story..

But to compete with a modern day 450, I might be crazy but not that crazy..... :D

When I was 16 I borrowed a buddy's new 87' CR 250 and raced it in my first 250 B class race at Red Bud. I holeshot and jumped the first set of doubles on the old double-double my first lap. Then cross rutted coming down the off camber after the double-double and fell over. Picked it up, took off passed several guys and finished 3rd on that 1st moto. And then finished 4th overall. Good memories of that bike!

Lee your humor and presence is good so don't take this the wrong way. I have yet to see/hear a fourstroke rider rip on someone who prefers two strokes. Its the two stroke hardcores that cant live and let live. I spend over $10,000 on mx parts a year and live less than 150 miles from your "store". I went to your website and read some of you opions. Dude. I am 42 years old and love two strokes. So what if I ride modern equipment? You think hanging on to the past will help anything? If you want to see a 100% 1979 CR250 PM me. I bought it new in 1982 (manitowoc) and never started it (double femour fracture and gave it up for 2 years). It has been in my rec room for the past 25+ years. Never even removed the warning stickers. And NO it is not for sale but you can sit on it.
Bottom line is we all race, ride and love motocross. Who cares what you ride? Drop the attitude. If Honda drops the fourstrokes and goes back to two strokes I will buy one. In the mean time things are what they are.
After doing this sport for over 20 years it amazes me that there are people out there that feel they are better or different. Fuck that. We all shred berms. We all jump shit we should not jump. We all line up to race when we should be home working on the house. We all spend money we don't even have.

Motocross people should stick together. What is there??? 10,000 of us world wide?

Do the math.

good points dad...but i think a lot of folks could care less at the local level. i for one would still like to see the pro level, indoors especially stay with 2 strokes. reserve the big bore 4 bangers to wideopen outdoor stuff. that way the riders would have to be gurus on both types of engines/bikes.

Lee is a good shit and means no harm to anyone.
Looking at the pics of the 87 CR250 I find it funny that years later we have special seats that are flat with a step in them to keep you from moving around when the old bikes that you sit in not on do the same thing !

I never rode the 87.. Is it that good?
I find it hard to decide which CR I liked better. It was either the 93 cr 250 or the 2001 cr 250.
Both lots of fun.
That 87 looks like it could be fun if you raced it in a vintage class.

Twizzler did you live around here in the 80's? I mean close to Red Bud??
