[quote="Scotty":46fnpcxd]I know of a few people who cant go half the day without smoking the shit. If its not addictive, then what would you call it? People who cant function properly without smoking weed have addiction problems in my book. Addictions come in all forms, not just heroin and crystal meth. Fast food can become an addiction. That goes along with my previous post that marijuana is addictive in the same way that driking Coca Cola is addictive. It stretches the definition of "addictive" to absurd dimensions.

Herion is addictive. Meth is addictive. Alcohol is addictive. Tobacco is addictive. Marijuana, Coca Cola and fast food are not addictive.

Physical and psychological addictions are two different things

Actually caffeine does have a true physical withdrawal.

If we stretch the definition of "addiction" to coffee, Coca Cola, fast food or marijuana, maybe we should consider how hard it is to stop breathing. Evertime I stop breathing, I have an irresistable urge to start again. It's an addiction to air. I just can't help myself.

These "research" things are just efforts to make a political point look like it's science.

What about people who have headaches and such from not getting there daily dose of caffeine? Wouldnt that be considered a withdrawal symptom? When you cant even function with taking a hit of maryjane, then you have some addiction problems..

It can be an addictive type behavior like food, etc. However, it really doesn't produce major withdrawal symptoms. Marijuana is more habit forming and does cause some craving which would make it an addictive substance but the withdrawal symptoms are really minor compared to benzodiazepenes, opiates, and even anti-depressants which the withdrawal symptoms are horrible but anti-depressants do not cause someone to crave them which makes it non-addictive but they do produce withdrawals. Marijuana can produce a craving which makes it mildly addictive but the withdrawal symptoms are very minor compared to many other drugs.

I always listen to loveline when I'm heading to work late at night. Dr. Drew always tells the potheads the most dangerous part of smoking the hooch is the compulsion to smoke more and more, and when you can't get the same effect you move on to something 'more potent'.. no physical addiction, high mental addiction.

You sure seem compelled to. Posting an article to support your view and calling out Dave in the title. If you don't need to then stop trying so hard.

I read this whole thing and then smoked a bowl. I will now have to re-read this thread if I want to remember it.

I'd be interested in an objective, unbiased study. What's also extremely important is how the results are exposed to the media. Trouble is, even if the study indicates a relatively benign drug, chances are that the government and the media will pick and choose "facts" from the study to make weed sound like heroin.

If ya notice, they say 1 in 9 people who try pot become addicted. That in itself is a pretty low rate.

Let's see the study results, and I'd like to see it when it's stacked up against cigarettes, alcohol, and even prescription drugs.

Getting a little paranoid there, Bobby? Afraid of what a real scientific study might find?

If it's done properly, the study could find that marijuana isn't addictive, is addictive, or be inconclusive. That's the point of doing the research.

Conventional belief isn't always right, even in medical fields. Since World War II, everyone believed that magarine was healthier for you than butter and vegetable shortening better than lard or tallow. The doctors said so, the food establishment said so. The government said so. Atherosclerosis rates skyrocketed. Heart disease mushroomed. It was all based on the observation that fatty streaks were seen in arteries of young soldiers at autopsy, and that the sreaks contained cholesterol. The conclusion was that eating cholesterol caused it. Now, some 60-70 years later, research has been done into the subject, and it's been discovered that the cholesterol in arteries is made by the individual, not from the diet. And that hydrogenated (trans) fatty acids are worse for you, as far as fats go, than natural saturated fatty acids. And that we should have been concentrating on eating more monounsaturated fatty acids. And that peoples' gentic makeup plays a greater determination on their risks of heart disease than their diets.

I recently went to the Dr. for a physical.Dr asks me about drinking and drugs. I was truthfull with him and told him I have a couple of hits off the bong late in the evening when all my chores are done. His response was that of all the things out there ,pot is the least harmfull.I also told him when I had surgery on my shoulder I took very few pain pills, and I felt that pot was way better for pain management.I also told him during our discussion that the people I know with a drug problem ,get thier drugs from pushers that have about 12 years of college under thier belt.He didnt know what to say about that comment, and switched the conversation to how often I get up in the middle of the night to piss..
If weed is so addictive ,how come I can keep my hands out of my stash for a week or so without going into convulsions,or fits of rage?

It's because addictive personalities are more susceptible to such addictions that those who do not have addictive personalities. This is why it is important to differentiate between psychological/emotional addictions and physical/chemical addictions.

Weed may not be addictive, but Oreo's after a hit is a must and something my body can't do without.
