Spent many a day at the Dunes. In the summer of 70 (6 months away from getting my first bike) I flagged a "European Scrambles" event for $5 and all the silt you could eat.

Here's a couple of Kodak Instamatic pics of my buds, the Ely bros., riding the Shadow Glen track soon after it was built.

John had a 71 Bultaco 125, lace up boots and denim "leathers"

Norm had one of the 3 71 125 Maico's on the west coast. Did I mention silt?

Wow..........
What a cool post.
Loved that place too.
The whole scene, Friday nites, Sunday's,
a huge part of my life for sure, & many of my buds,
& girls friends thru jr. high & onto high school.
I live out there now, a "valley boy" before, but for 20+
yrs. up in Valencia. I secretly cry everytime I drive by.
Huge, huge, memories....................................

I rode Indian Dunes only once at the '74 World Mini GP and won the 125 Expert class. I also led the 80 Expert "Run Off" for a few laps and slid out in that fast first turn.

Cool pic ozman![/quote:1gncr0iv]

Outstanding pic....

And those crybabies racing today whine when a big bump forms.....Man stuff in those days.

I went once to check it out....wow as stoked as I was, we never went back. We had Plymouth and E-street as our sand tracks that got good and rough.

Indian Dunes....lots of legendary bench racing stories I bet. Hella famous track.

Raced my first race, won my first race, met the first girl I kissed there. Got my first ticket on the way there. Was the first to jump the triple right out of the tower turn when they made Shadowglenn into a SX track. Man I have a lot of memorys of that place. We used to leave school early and go ride there. Jumping the river, going up in the hills to jump all those big jumps. I could ride for hours at that place and never get bored. In 83 they had a turned the international track into a SX track for a few races. It had a huge double that you could clear and land on a table, I have a good pic of me way up in the air jumping that thing.

Of all the memeorys I have of that place only one is bad, when I rode a mud race there in 83 on the int track. If you have never raced in wet sand you wouldnt understand, I had a rash on my ass.

Man dunes was the best all the friends I made there. All the great riders that came through their. I used to love watching Donnie Hanson on his can-am. And the time Hanson and O’Mara road the last lap of a Grand Pre team race double. Friday nights at dunes was my social life. Great times. Wish there was a place like that to take my boys riding and racing. To many memories to put into print

You guys remember when Johnny OMara rode the Mugen Honda there with his cool white boot gators and his white Elsinore? I had many a good times there on the track, in the sand wash, in the river and in the hills across the river. The old tower from the mini track stood for years after the place closed and it too finally got torn down. That placed rocked!!!!
i do! omara look like he was going 1000 miles an hour when sitting still!!! wow!! he looked so cool!!! i started out on the mini track in 1978 . with kyle lewis mouse mcoy tony ellissi . i would have loved to had a piece of that old tower!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sad miss that place alot!

#0 Mike Brown takes the holeshot on the Dunes Shadow Glen track.

I just found this shot and will have to call Mike and let him know about it.

I remember I raced a Golden State race at Indian Dunes once and it rain... not just little rain... big rain. I think I made the podium riding the 125 jr class that day. Racing in the rain was the fun part. I was 15 at the time and I had my driving license learners permit. My old man was yelling at me all the way up (and back) that were going to crash and I needed to slow down. That was more stressful then the race itself LOL...

The Dunes was always my favorite track(s). Here is the start line for the 1974 Viewfinders G.P. , 125 D- class, Levis and lace up boots with a Norris Roberts jersey. Someone please tell me that's not emo Blush The Elsinore just came out and their were boatloads of them.

This one was on the (I think?) Shadow Glenn track with my Honda CR 450, yes they were junk and couldn't sell it fast enough. Note the elbow's in proper location for Spode class.

i agree was allot of good times there.........

i remember johnny O the most
I was watching an episode of Adam !2 where a bikie gang was being hassled by Reid and Malloy and the bikie leader challenged Malloy to a motocross race at Indian Dunes. It was 1972 and they were on Husqvarnas and CZ's. The track had hardly any jumps but there is a walk over bridge in one shot and all the fences look in good condition. I live in Australia and of course I have never seen the track but I remember reading about tracks like Saddleback and Indian Dunes when I was a kid.
