I highly doubt they will be destroying any bike that comes up as stolen after a VIN check.

SHOULDN'T THE STOLEN BIKES BE RETURNED TO THE RIGHTFUL OWNERS?

The problem is that the system for stolen vehicles is far from perfect as is the registration system in many States. Nevada for example went many years without issuing registration for offroad bikes. If you can't prove that you own it, they aren't going to give it to you.

Crime in 21st century America.
This week the President reminded warned the country that even though criminals are not a protected class in the Fair Housing Act landlords cannot use a person's criminal record to deny them rental options. His reasoning was because the court systems are unfair denying someone a rental based on criminal record is prejudice against minority's.
A couple of the presidential candidates keep talking about "mass incarceration".
California Governor Brownstain has granted parole to over 2,300 lifers in the last seven years. These are not elderly men that are getting released, one was only 36 he committed murder at 17 years old.
Chief Charlie defies state law and has made up his own '"laws" about impounding autos of unlicensed and uninsured drivers. How did LA become the hit and run capitol of the world?
And the latest hip thing is to pay criminals with tax dollars not to commit crimes.

I say only crush them if the guy that got caught actually owns it. Otherwise try to track down the original owners and return them. If the original owners can't be tracked down then sell the bikes at auction and use the proceeds towards the cost of reuniting the stolen bikes with their rightful original owners.
Exactly.

In 2002 my YZ426 was stolen out of my garage.
Found a full year later in a Harlem alley. VIN scratched off and totally abused.
Was a PITA to get back from the police in Queens Impound Lot, two trips down there and hours upon hours of
waiting in the lobby, paying some money, finally got it back.

Been said before, but I still have to go on record saying that I hope they check to see if they are stolen property before they crush them. Really amazing article. I hope the police put a better effort into solving violent crime trends than they put into this idea.

Saw this on Yahoo News today. http://www.grindtv.com/moto/nypd-plans-to-stop-dirt-bikers-by-crushing-their-bikes-on-live-tv/#10lQzE00yVdJOBd4.97
Why don't they just throw these two tards and the others like them in jail? They have video evidence of them committing a crime. Throw them in jail on live TV. They popularize this sort of behavior.

Even when the cops corner them or they crash out their bikes they will just ditch them and run. They don't care, it's not their bike. They'll just go still another one.

And these companies that sponsor them and their videos need to be held accountable for promoting this sort of behavior.

It's not the scooters fault... Why punish those poor souls?

X2, start at their testes and work their way up Smile

I hope they at least try to find the real owners of the bikes before they crush them.

Wheelie boy in Atlanta has mine and most bikes are stolen so most probably won't care! My bike was stolen at the Atlanta supercross and we found this picture 2 weeks later on Instagram #atlbikelife and cops identified him and had his address and I haven't heard anything since!

It's the real motocrosser's fault. Just think, if they didn't have the bikes, these poor misguided guys wouldn't have to steal them....

That was my first thought. They'll react by stealing more.

Same experience. I sold a bike I had shipped from Canada. Kid I sold it to had it stolen from his garage. He went to get it back, bill of sale not good enough. I went with reciepts that had my name on them, no good need to have a real NJ DMV registration. I went and did all the work to get it registered for the kid.

Went back with documents. Got the bike. It was trashed, not even worth the time or money it took to get it back.

They would not let him see it prior to getting it out either. Really shitty for the kid.

Anyone read the comments section at the bottom of the article? Amazing, that these are mostly stolen bikes isn't mentioned much at all.

well, crushing drag cars is one thing....Harder to steal, harder to get away in. Crushing dirt bikes will just cause them to steal more. This guy is a knucklehead. Fine them to the moon, impound their bikes and sell them at auction. Maybe we could buy our stuff back.

At the very least, send them to doctors without borders or something. I've heard some states actually do that, it helps doctors get around Africa and other places around the world. Most importantly the original owners should have an opportunity to get them back.

The best one is where the cops have gun buy back programs and then resell the guns for a profit.
Then when asked about it they say "well we got them out of the irresponsible hands"

This guy had the right idea. Remember the good ol' days, when you couldn't be bothered to wait for those donut scarfing 300 pounders to show up a day after you called in? Just handle shit yourself.

It's weird when you see dealerships "sponsoring" wheelie boys or companies like FMF sending them full exhaust setups..

Actually, Danny needs to take them into the interview room and "talk" some sense into them.

It is very weird and wrong to see companies promoting their illegal activities.
