That looked like a lot of fun. And wow, it looked really dialed. Soaked the landing like nothing, bit front heavy at times though, nothing much. Great PR.

Can't decide if it's an awesome machine or if it's just another try to make quads look cool. Dry

SxS's are so slow. I get bored very easily driving them. Spent some time in a new XYZ 1000R and i just wanted to get back to my bike. Over 1500 lbs (near 1700 with one occupant) and 120hp is not really inspired performance if you ask me.

My buddy had a maverick XC , we took it out through the farm fields one night after hunting and it never once left the ground or slowed down no matter how plowed up the fields were . My biggest fear was having a 170 pound whitetail deer jump out of the woods in front of us while going that fast .

To be fair, damn near everything is "slow" relative to a motorcycle.

Where's BobPA with his usual remarks about quads?

A sxs is not a quad folks. Unless you look at the polaris ace (in my opinion). You guys can't see past the front fender on your bikes sometimes.

The YXZ is a slug compared to the RZR Turbo xp. With a few mods on my Turbo xp i'm just under 200 hp. 0-80 happens really fast.. I can hang with v8 buggies in the dunes at Glamis with ease. Drive a stock one with 144 hp and see if you still feel the same.

Coming from someone who owes a lot of his professional success to the Baja SAE program, these SxS hold a place near and dear ro my heart and these rzr's are a direct product of fellow engineers that have went through that program. its pretty neat to see the evolution of those SxSa throughout the years, and i for one am stoked to see the success that they have enjoyed. the manufacturers have put a lot of money into the SxS market, and the SAE over the years.

Not to take away from the OP, but SxS's are pretty cool, IMO. Like everything else, there's a few SxS owners that make the whole group look bad.

Sure, you can make anything fast if you throw enough money at it.

...and i've driven plenty of boosted RZR's. I guess its all relative. I just think they went the wrong direction with sport UTV's. I'm an employee for Arctic Cat, so i cant disparage the industry too much, i just envisioned something else when the craze started a decade ago.

Think Drakart buggy. (google Drakart 700cc Rotax) Their original buggy design was way more the direction I was hoping for. They could do 0-100mph in 4 seconds with 120hp. Think what they vould do with a bone stock 800 that makes 165 hp.

I mean the RZR turbo 1000 is pretty quick... It rips. Sure it's not super sport bike quick, but still. The YXZ is alright but rumor has it they are about to release a turbo YXZ.

I still agree with you tho, I would have liked to see it go more in that direction too. Instead of putting in a modest motor that is focused very mainstream-ish, it would have been a lot cooler if they just went all out for performance, like they do with dirt bikes.

It would have been sick to see Yamaha put a modded and turboed R1 engine in the YXZ instead of the triple cylinder they have.

How many people would buy them compared to their current sales? In my area you can't buy a basic Maverick for under 13750 + fees (its what they are advertising them for). If you put more technology and "go faster" parts in them how much more expensive would they be? And could you sell enough to make it worth while? Serious question.....

Driver error or equipment failure? Bet I know the answer.....

I've driven plenty of Rzr's and they are/were fun to a point. But IMO nothing still beats a MX bike. I've even had the Rzr out at one of our local MX tracks hitting some jumps, which I admit was pretty fun. Everything gets old though. Now, I just use it for hunting and just cruising around with the family. Tired of pouring money into the damn things - because they do break, and when they do they make 4 stroke MX bikes look like PW50 in terms of cost to fix.

You're on the right track, not a good situation, just thankful I was on the bike behind but things can go wrong real fast in these things

I can't believe how much these things cost. A hopped up one at Burt's was over 30 grand. And they had several like that on the floor.

I've got a RZR and it is pretty fun. The best thing about it is that it has a passenger seat so you can give somebody a thrill who otherwise doesn't have the skill to do it. First time I hit a hit a jump with my wife she freaked. Grinning

I've ended up on the ground a few times though...

They seem to be selling like crazy. Every weekend I see tons of them heading up the interstate to the national forest. It's not uncommon to see a big ass gooseneck carrying 5 or 6 of them that all probably have $30-$40K each. When you see a couple hundred grand worth of SxS's going down the road, it's makes me think the dealers are very grateful for them. Especially given the way bike sales have dropped off in the past decade.

We just got done putting a turbo on our demo YXZ a week or so ago. Wakes that thing right up! Haven't dyno'd it, but they claim 155hp (compared to 112hp stock)
