Amateur racing - more classes or less?

One of the current problems with motocross is entry fee cost and creating too many classes. I started racing in 2002, and entry fees are still the same in Canada. My Dad started racing in the late 70's and entry fees were the same then. In order for promoters and clubs to generate enough revenue, they created more classes.With increased classes, came shorter motos, longer days, and less time for track watering/maintenance. The increased strain on time led to people leaving the sport, which put further pressure on promoters to increase classes (plus societies shift for everyone to win a trophy) along with keeping entry fee's low to ensure everyone is still racing.

Increase entry fee cost (I would raise it to $50 per class at least) and reduce class sizes. Riders can now race two classes instead of three to get a good days worth of racing in and the promoter makes more money (30x3=90 2x50=100 or 2x30=60 2x50=100). The increase in revenue and the decrease in time will allow a better product for the racer and will get them going home sooner. The large class sizes and better track conditions/value per entry fee will result in more people coming back to the races.

Less. A lot less. And keep the gates full with combined classes or whatever. If the track will allow it, multiple
gate drops, too. But sitting around all day for a couple short motos totally sucks ass and I refuse to do it.

I like racing SRA where I can do TWO 45 minute motos and still be outta there by noon.

Less classes. More laps

Lessen the classes until the class sizes are at least 6 riders.
Award trophies for 30% of class size with a maximum of 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
In my opinion 4th place on doesn't matter.

I'm going to start racing again in the next month or 2.
I haven't won a race yet, and will soon, but the trophies will mean a lot more to me if I'm racing more than one other person.

Part of me wants to continue to race the 40+ beginner class because that's where I'm at until I win a time or 2, but there's usually only 2 or 3 riders.

But, we need larger class sizes.

My 2nd place at Pala on the full national track means a lot to me because I beat out 6 other racers to get it!

I'd like to see a 50cc, 65cc, 85cc, 85cc Expert, Super Mini, 125cc Schoolboy and Open A, B, and C (any displacement) along with +25, +35, +45 adult classes.

Limit the number of classes to increase each classes gate and allow for longer motos. With the above classes, most everyone had the opportunity to race 2 classes if desired.

Just out of curiosity, if a track owner or promoter was to shorten the schedule and run longer motos with the gates more full, what would you be willing to pay as a racer? Serious question, I just don't see how a promoter could make enough $ to have it make sense. There is a promoter up here toying with the idea of kind of a JDay format, not exactly the same, but similar.

I would like to see fewer classes and more people on the line. 10 in a race or you get bumped into the higher class. Only 4 signed up in 450C? Sorry, you're bumped into 450B.

I'm fat and out of shape, I can hardly do 5 laps much less anything more. What I would like, is to break the mold and do 3 race format. Gives you more time on the track, and with less classes throughout the day it would be possible. People would pay more for the 3rd Moto, because you're getting 50% more. Just my .02

Two 85 beginner classes down south a few weeks ago. Both class winners were jumping everything.

The race ran so late they had to turn on the lights. Lots of peeps left early, including alot of first moto winners.

I know its hard for these tracks to make money but they really need to find another way.
