I've debated on going out and hanging with some of the 'old guys' from the message board for years. It's always been earlier in the season, and not conducive with my schedule. Well, this year I 'pulled the trigger'.

I booked my flight into Gateway (Phoenix/Mesa) and took the shuttle to the hotel. I was assured from TJ and drmarkr that I wouldn't need a rental car. This was hard for me to swallow, as I hate thinking that I am putting somebody else out, or causing any extra work for them (i guess that's the republican in me).

Anyway, I arrived in Gilbert on Thursday to some beautiful weather. 70's and sunny! I checked into my hotel and walked around the area. The lady at the desk told me that the Dick's sporting goods store was only "a couple blocks" down Market Street. Well, it turns out that her definition of a couple blocks is different than mine! (I mapped it later to find it was 1.5 miles each way). I came back to the room and TJ arranged for a couple crazy Alaskans to pick me up and bring me to his house.

We get to TJ's and his mother-in-law had cooked a spaghetti dinner for all of us. After some beer, spaghetti, and bullshitting, we go to a sweet little bar called San Tan Flats. It was a great time as they had individual fire pits that you could gather around.

Friday I get up as we are planning on doing a ride day/shoot day at Moto Land. TJ came and got me and we headed to the track. (I had UPS'ed my gear to him the week before). We get there and Dr. Mark was already there with everything set up. I changed into my gear and FGR01 was kind enough to have a few bikes for us to ride. Then some loud mouth Greek looking guy kept trying to pawn off donuts the whole time... We chatted for a while and I took to the track. It was a fun track and was in great shape. After a couple of motos we headed over to the shooting section of the property. maicoman (Arcas) had all kinds of automatic toys to play with, with Mark and TJ having some of theirs out there too. We shot and blew shit up for a few hours. If you get a chance to ride at that track, go check it out.

I rode with Mark back to the hotel and got cleaned up for TJ's friday night shindig. I was told to expect a lot of great food and crazy Arizonians. I wasn't disappointed with either.... I met some other fellow motodrivers/vitards. We all discussed how us old guys were so much better than the new generation of poster. Wink Mark and I called it an early night and headed to the hotel. I heard rumors of the party going on until the wee hours....

Saturday brought on race day. Mark and I headed to the stadium and to the pits. We walked around and meet some fellow message boarders. This stadium is amazing. You couldn't go to your seats until 5:30, so we just kind of milled around and watched practice. 5:30 came and we headed to the "party loft". I had high expectations for this, but the reality of the room exceeded anything I could think of. We had the start coming straight towards us, and sat directly above the first corner. I think there were 130 people in 'the loft'. It was nice having it's own bar that had drinks and food. The racing was good and the conversation was even better (with Jay and Jim). I found out during the day that Mark and TJ were staying close to the stadium and I didn't know how to get back to my hotel. I had to fly out at 7:30am on Sunday, so I wanted to be back to my hotel, as the stadium was over an hour away. Luckily I hitched a ride with a fellow MD'er and he brought me to my door.

It's funny meeting people at events like this and they introduce themselves...then give their screen names and you're like, oh, I know you! lol

It was a great time and I met lots of cool guys/girls. I'd like to thank everybody for their hospitality..especially Mark, TJ, and Arcas!!! I look forward to coming back next year!!!!

Oh yeah... FUBK! Wink
(and thanks for the ride, BK!)

(of course, I think most of the people I met, don't post here anymore. lol)

Definitely worth the trip...well, if you like hanging out with a bunch of middle aged dudes that barely ride anymore and a couple of them even skip leg day! lol

Sounds great! I like shooting guns too. Hey man, some guys are just blessed with good legs, and don't need legday. Then you have Bros like me who must never skip leg day due to having chicken genetics.

if you want to get some traction on this thread , the title should read Fuck Arizona or 500lb guy sucks.

Nah, you know me, I like to fly under the radar. Regarding the "500lb guy sucks", I just figured that is common knowledge and implied in EVERY post.

It was great to finally meet you, Huck!! No one was sure about the new stadium, but it turned out to be a 'win' in all respects, as far as I could tell....

Wish I had taken some pics of that Party Loft! You guys that haven't been out here need to get this on your bucket list. For the record, I had Camp a plane reservation made a few years back, and he pussed out....he damn sure better load up the family and get out here soon!

I read on the internet that the whole thing in PHX was staged and that it never really happened.

Good job Huck, i have been fortunate enough to hang with the Arizona crew 4 times and they never fail to impress or look after strangers, especially out of towners.

Right on, man! Always a good time. Glad you enjoyed yourself. Sorry I didn't get to meet you, bvm111...didn't even know anyone else from the board was there! The loft was definitely epic, Doc. Thanks, as always, for setting that up. Already looking forward to next year. Was a rough ride this year, just because of the week I had prior, but was still a great time. Always good to see the old gang. Jim definitely seem to enjoy your warm salty nuts, Hunk. Damn it, Danny...get your ass out here already! Hope we'll see you again soon, Darren! Hope all is well on the other side of the planet!...//TJ

Weekend was a blast as always. Good to meet you Huck. Didn't get to meet bvm111. I never put 2 and 2 together that it was you. You kept riding past our pits and we all commented how bitchin' your KX sounded.

Here's a few pics my cousin took.

No sweat FGR... I'll be back down to ride in AZ again, I'm a native and parents still live in Fountain Hills. I'll be down week of May 12 when I'll be graduating with my masters from ASU so maybe we can all meet up again... Motoland was fun once I figured the track out but roached it up until then...next time I'm getting the doubles in the front!
