"SELL"

But in all seriousness, it depends on if you want safe or secure,
A good friend of mine started a company call Realty Investment Co.
Trades under the Ticker "O" on the NYSE,
Their business model does not depend in any way on the economy.
One day over the camp fire he was telling me the stringent requirements
that a company has to meet to be a tenant. Very quality tenants.
Pays regular dividends and just always gets better. Just a safe long term
investment.
I made a very good profit on O. If I remember correctly, sold when I doubled my original investment (not counting income from dividends.) Still have it on the yahoo tracking page and most days regret selling it.

Yea you regret doubling your money ?

Lol. That what sucks. The next stock you'll be like well maybe it'll climb and eventually you lose....

I like to follow the 20/20 rule. When I gain 20%, sell. When I lose 20%, sell.

What drove me crazy is you can find stocks, look at their history, and see them double in 6 months. My bad timing, the stock already shot it's load and I missed out.

Paper trade for a year or two. Learn how it works, without loosing $$$. 1) don't loose money.
Hint: USD is 1.41 to Cdn dollar. Canada economy is down, because oil price. Many in the field 100,000 + people are out of work. Many of those people required trucks (new, 1, 3 yr old trucks. Now they are dumping them. Buy some trucks in Alberta. Send them down to Texas. Where trucks are favourite. Sell! Sell! I bet the dealerships are already doing it.

Here is what the oil experts are looking at. Like i said earlier, oil still hasnt bottomed, but it will and then it will rebound big.

I have been buying a couple stocks on the dips for the long haul. MBLY (MobilEye), RIG (Transocean), TASR (Taser International), LOW (Lowes), and GG (Goldcorp). Different reasons for all of them, you can always buy some alphabet inc if you have alot of money to speculate with.

I've been trying to learn options trading, strictly selling puts. I have this dream where I have enough stock to sell puts in volume and retire early and live off rental income and day trading..

Monday morning I bought about a thousand dollars worth of COP (Conoco Philips) then by close it was down 10%. I was like oh shit, I should have waited. Smile It's actually come back almost that much already. If it goes down a lot more I'll probably buy some more. I also bought AMZN, EBAY, and SPY. I put $5k in total to start with. So far I'm down 78 bucks. Smile

Face Book jumped 15.52% yesterday and Under Armour 22.59 % own a little in each, wish I owned a bunch.

I bought a little Fit Bit this morning, it's one of the stocks they claim Gopro is dragging down with it.

Day trading I will never really understand, I only understand home runs. Some company or other will emerge to do with robotics in the next ten years, keep your eyes peeled for that.

Long time reader, first time poster. I recommend watching Mad Money. Kramer and his callers give great advice. I doubled my money without trying. I also went against his formula ( don't follow me) pay attention to your stocks! It's easy to lose money if you don't follow and do homework. Watch for a few weeks and see what the big trends are. Biggest loses I've had are oil industry. Biggest gains were industrial companies. Nice street bikes/race bikes BTW. I ride a ZX6R, just slower than you. Smile Good luck!!!

So status update on my stock thread. So invested 10 grand total back around the time I started this thread and am already up about 17% which is think is kick ass. I knew I wanted to invest in Oil because it was so low so I took someone's advice here and invested a couple of grand in ConocoPhillips, I also put a couple of grand in BP, a few grand in SPY, a couple of grand in Amazon and a grand in Ebay. ConocoPhillips and a few others have really kicked ass. I regret getting the EBAY but am unsure what I should do now with all of the stocks. I'm thinking maybe several are at a high and maybe I should pull the money back out and watch for a while or invest it in something else I think is low. The oil seemed like a pretty sure thing to me and I'm not really too confident in anything else. I think I should just ditch the EBAY although I really like EBAY and would like to see them pick up. Had I known at the time that Carl Icahn had anything to do with the company I never would have bought any. Here are my current positions:

So far it's been fun. Suggestions welcome. Smile If y'all make me a millionaire I'll throw a big party and invite y'all. Smile

The other stock Im looking at is Sherwin williams paint SHW , they say it might split soon.

Im a total newby so don't act on anything I posted , its just things Im watching.

I have some money in Putnam mutual funds (and put money in monthly). My uncle is a financial advisor and I go through him. That's just something I think of as a savings account more or less, don't think too much about it. I can see where you could really make some money in this stock market thing if you know what you are doing. I wish I knew what I was doing. Smile

I think we are to far detached from whats really going on to be doing much more then getting lucky.

To me buying and selling stock is like gambling in Vegas, eventually the house wins.

So what are you saying, keep my money where I have it? Maybe I should sell my Ebay and put that into more oil? Smile

Many variables need to play out in the next while. Volatility will be great.
Brexit, Elction, Yellen. Interesting times.

Think about what gouges America the most. Oil and pharma. Seriously. Only problem is they are usually expensive up front. Also, troll big pharma (Merck, pfizer, abbott(abbvie) etc. for potential buyouts of smaller companies. Usually thats a pretty good bet. Those tend to yield free splits. Like was mentioned above, knowing whats up next to launch in their pipeline can be a pretty good payout. But be careful on the timelines for new products and where they are as far as FDA approval cause they can still be years out. Look for stuff in phase III human trials. Those are closest in launching. Finally companies like abbott who arent just pharma (like Abbott with Abbvie and Ross(Ensure, Enfamil). Those can give you more opportunities of new products coming. Just make sure that you know if some of those companies have been spun off or still under the parent company umbrella.

EBS turned out to be a good investment. I bought a little bit just to play around with right when ebola pandemonium hit. It was 21.50 at the time and has doubled in a little over a year.

All I'm seeing is talk of stock prices - no mention of dividends.

I've wanted to dabble in this stuff for quite a while. Even set up an account to do it in at my bank. But I never freed up the mad money to do it with, yet at least. How can you try to factor dividends into the picture too, when decision making a buy?

You would have to be brave to be a buyer in the these markets with U.S indexes sitting close to all time highs and the cycle suggesting a bear market is due. I'm heavily short on the Dow @17828 and averaged in to TWTR @ 1423 looking to scale out in the 18-20 range. All IMO of courseSmile
